Answer:
If you are talking about the anchor kit, it comes with a 4x4 wood post which does not go underground, it sits on top of the surface while the steel portion is driven into the ground and supports the wood 4x4. It seems to be fairly stable.

Answer:
I don't know what the manufacturer's recommendation is but I feel quite confident that a concrete anchor would be more sturdy and permanent.

Answer:
You can use concrete you just need to make sure that it doesn't go over were the post sits on the anchor but if you don't want to use it that is fine also.

I don' believe that this box would be too difficult to break into. I think that it will only keep out " honest" people.

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 31 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So simple to install anyone can do it. This kit made installing the mailbox I purchased super easy! August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Anchor Post Kit is exactly the easy solution to digging that I wanted. Cleared the location with my utilities and pounded it in. Works great and was more stable than I expected. Need a BIG hammer. I used a 28 oz framing hammer but could have used a bigger drilling hammer of about 40 oz to better advantage. No digging & no cement needed. Would use this again if ever needed. June 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by works well in a pinch Easy to install and get a mailbox up and operational quick and easy. Time will tell how it stands up.... A bit tough to keep straight during installation. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Turns out did not need the anchor post, but used it for a birdhouse post. Works great! Mailbox purchase was misleading in that there was no anchor for it. Used what was already in place, but ordered the mailbox anchor post anyway. Instead of returning it, I decided to use it on the birdhouse post for my back yard. Made installation exceptionally easy. Would order again. May 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NOT as recommended although recommended in mailbox adspace, this installation accessory is completely inadequate for job. Mailbox directions specify a 72" post, this is 24" 4X4, on 24" metal post ??? The kind person who installed it for me jerry-rigged it by adding a 2X4 extension and another prop, so it would serve, but it is not likely to hold up well. It NEEDS the 72" 4X4, as specified in the Mailbox ad. Why not advertise/sell that one with it?? May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really happy with the kit The anchor post was very easy for senior citizen to install and the quality seemed too be good. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Anchor post kit. This is good for signs. Wood was of excellent quality. Anchor went in easily. June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not for sandy soil. Poor design for sandy soil (cape cod) . the anchor is neither wide or long enough to stabilize the unit. Also the 4x4 post id PINE! I had to install a 6ft. X 1" length of conduit and clamp it to the rear of the finished product in order to make it sturdy. May 18, 2016
