What other post will work well with this mailbox? I see you recommended the Brighton post..but it only comes in black or white. We need the bronze.

Spray paint in any color you love. Choose a quality name brand for about $6-$10. You'll be happy with the results.

Can this mailbox be mounted on a 2" x 6" plank of wood instead of a post?

My current mailbox is mounted on a 2" x 6" plank of wood next to my neighbors mailbox. We have about 8 mailboxes all lined up next to each other on a single 2" x 6" plank of wood.

Answer:
There is a couple of way that this could work the first thing is as long as you are able to get 4 screws in through the bottom of the mailbox it will work, also you can buy a Universal mounting bored to place on the post and then attach the mailbox to that.

Answer:
This is not that type of mailbox. This is a post mount and the mounting holes for screws are on the bottom of the mailbox. If you wanted to do your way you'd have to drill holes. i wouldn't recommend this idea. This mailbox is heavy and sturdy.

Answer:
You can use the existing holes in the bottom of the mailbox to mount the box to a wood plank or drill additional holes. You will need wood screws (not provided with the box) to attach the box to the plank.

Some of the reviews indicate the combination lock can be somewhat sticky and also is hard to see !
I believe I can put up with the stickyness but at my age my eyes are beginning to fail me !!

This is the only box I could locate that had a combination lock. It does need to be larger but it is adequate.

Treat this lock mechanism just like a car door lock. In the cold weather its a great idea to spray it with WD40 or similar type of products to keep it lubed up and prevent freezing.

I do not think the lock is well designed for weather of any kind. You may need to keep it oiled to resist weather.

Customer Reviews

Armory Venetian Bronze Locking Steel Post-Mount Mailbox is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT MAILBOX...... BUT, A FEW DRAWBACKS THAT YOU DON'T READ ABOUT. Ok, so you've decided to buy this mailbox and now you're reading the reviews to get a better idea about it. Let's start by saying this mailbox is very strong & made well. It is heavy and needs to be mounted on a post that will support it well. Best choice would be Gibraltar Brighton Aluminum Top Mount Post ($50). They come in black or white but you can paint it whatever color you prefer. Also with this mailbox it says you will need a mounting bracket. But if you buy the post I just mentioned above it comes with that bracket saving you $10. The lock mechanism is great because there are no keys to use or lose. You can put your own 3 digit code to open it by following the instructions. The drawback with this is if you get home late and it's dark out, you'll need a light to see the numbers in order to open it. Cellphone light comes in handy! Now that you've got your mail out of the box you notice it's slightly damp/wet! Why? Ahhhh.......And here is the other drawback! First let me be clear, this mailbox, Does Not Leak! No water gets in from rain. The problem is here in the Midwest where our temps get cold in the Fall & Winter. During a cold day or night frost will form on the metal box. As the mailbox gets a little warmer it forms condensation inside the box and causes the mail to become damp and possibly wet at times. I've had this happen many times now. I'm not sure if you can stop the condensation at all but the best thing to do is put a small basket inside or plastic tray to catch the mail. This way it stays off of the mailbox bottom inside and not getting wet. Easy fix! I hope this helps anyone looking to buy this mailbox.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plan ahead: Must buy mounting bracket in store ($10) I am very pleased Home Depot provides this combination-lock post-mounted mailbox (online only.) If you order one, make plans to pickup a mounting bracket in the store since it is available in-store only. I am writing this review in hopes to spare others the delays and problems I encountered since at this time it is not clear online that a separate mounting bracket is needed. (There is also an option to make your own post mount from a pine board.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good box ridiculous combination lock The box is solid and works well , but the little combination lock is ridiculously small and fussy. Can't read the numbers or manipulate them in any kind of weather or low light... Seems So easy to fix

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very durable I have had my mailbox for about 2 weeks now and I love it! I don't have to worry about my mail sitting in the box and getting stolen, yes that did happen! One of the reasons I picked this one was because it had the combo lock and not a key. I have enough keys to keep track of and I don't always have to remember to take a key to the mailbox to get my mail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the combo lock! Well built product. Better than I thought it would be. Made the rest of the mailboxes in the neighborhood look bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from rivets break easy The rivets holding the door hinge are made of soft aluminum and break easily. All five popped and the door fell off under normal use. I have drilled them out and replaced with screws, but the rivets should be able to hold the door on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This combination locking mailbox is easy to use, larger capacity than most! I really love my new mailbox! After a rash of mail theft I felt nervous having my mail sit where anyone could take it and steal my identity, just by opening up the mailbox. Need to purchase a mounting plate from Home Depot. Combination easy to set and use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works well to protect mail for 1 or 2 day trips I read some of the other reviews which were negative. The product I received had no problems. The box seemed well made and worked fine. We needed a mailbox to hold 1 to 3 days mail to prevent being targeted for thief. This is not a vault but sufficient for price.
