Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Tartallini Cedar post quality was not as expected
Not wanting to dig a post hole and fill it with Quikcrete to set it, I found this product and thought I'd give it a try. I was immediately disappointed in the quality of the cedar post and considered returning it due to the wood splitting in places. Not only was I worried about the integrity of the wood; holding up to daily use and changing weather conditions, but it really wasn't as pretty as I'd hoped it would be with ugly, dark splits. Needing to get on with this project after someone took out our old mailbox post unexpectedly, I moved ahead in installing this product with a Gibralter Large size mailbox.
Other than the post, the kit is a good one IF you have ground to anchor it in that is not full of rock like I do. It's ideal for a lawn next to the curb. The anchor goes down 15" and in ideal conditions (damp lawn with no rocks) it should go smoothly. I was not so lucky. I ended up having to dig a hole and fill it with Quikcrete after all due to dry conditions and extremely rocky soil.
After you've set the anchor you place the cedar post over it (solid end on top with pre-drilled hole over post anchor in ground) and pound it until the cedar post is flush with the ground. Then you place the smaller cedar cross bar into the pre-cut groove on the wood and use the included wood screws to secure the two pieces.
There is another piece of wood that I didn't use. It elevates the mailbox off the crossbar, but has no pre-drilled holes. I really didn't see the point. I purchased a Gibralter universal mounting bracket instead and used a Large sized mailbox. All of that went together well, and I added two reflectors to either side of the cedar post (not included) and numbers on the mailbox to finish the job.
If the post had been of better quality I would have given this product a higher rating. It's an easy product if your conditions are right, and if you sink the anchor properly the post is secure and will not wobble around. It also measures 42" from the ground to the bottom of the mailbox, which is within the US Postal Service recommended measurements for curbside mailboxes.

I should have returned this as soon as I opened the box and saw how poorly finished it was. Made the mistake of trying to install itit the cheap wood splintered, nothing came close to fitting correctly and the metal stake could not support the post even before the mailbox was on it! Spend a little more and avoid this cheap mess. Way below what I expect from a product sold at Home Depot.

Pros: $30, didn't have to dig a hole. Cons: super wobbly. Also worth spending money on a sledge if you dont have one, because it's work to install with a finishing hammer.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Trailhugger A bit misleading!
This product has to be the worst product I have ever purchased from Home Depot, The screws provided were aluminum instead of stainless steel, the heads promptly snapped off when tightening them down and they were way to short for their intended application. The support board was made from CHEAP pressure treated wood that split when trying to install it and the cross member although made from cedar was of low quality....obviously poor QC. Instead of returning it I made the necessary modifications and installed it, It was also very hard to keep it at a vertical level when pounding it into the ground.....the spike needs to be redesigned. For the price I would have expected a far better product....DO NOT BUY this "mailbox post"!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HP Better finishing materials
Easy to install and sturdy enough. Two complaints.
1. Screws supplied are inadequate. Use 2" instead of the 1 1/2"
2. Mailbox wood plate is for a small mailbox only. If you have a larger size 8"x19') you will need to get that separately.
