Replacement Handle

I have the RSKB0000 mailbox in black. The handle to open the front door broke. I followed your instructions in your answer to another question. I do not see RSK on the replacement part order form you directed us to on your website. How do I get this part?

How does the Postal Employee pick up outgoing mail?

There is a flag to put up when you have outgoing mail. How does the postal employee access the outgoing mail if it's a locking mailbox?
Asked by: Princess
The locking compartment is slightly recessed so when you pull down the handle and open the box there is a wire clamp that holds the outgoing mail.

This is the exact replacement of our old mailbox, which matches our neighbor's mailbox mounted next to ours. The problem with the mailbox after several years is that moisture remains within the box in rainy season. Our neighbor has the same problem with his mailbox. The width of the rear bottom in the back 3-6 inches of mailbox depth remains moist. It has a drain hole near the bottom center, but it needs another drain hole in the rear and better overall sealing as well. Ink used in printing important mailed documents gets smeared, and mail is unreadable.

I mounted it on the Gibraltar Cedar Drive-In Post and found that I had to make extra holes in the mailbox if you're using the recommended 1/4" bolts and nuts. If you use screws, then you don't need to make the extra holes. The only thing I could advise from Gibraltar is to provide a template for making holes in the cedar post.

I had it installed by a handyman that I hired through Home Depot. He installed it quickly for about $100.00. My mail was always soaking wet when it rained and the mailbox started to fall apart fairly quickly. This may have been related to tampering done by someone who would occasionally drive by during the night and open all the mailboxes. (There were several in a row here in my rural neighborhood). I did like the shape and size of the mailbox. It could hold 2-3 days of mail and larger pieces fit easily. In November of 2015, I discovered that someone had removed the lock on the mailbox and shortly after that, one of my vehicles was stolen out of my driveway. I had allowed a car dealership to send me a key for the vehicle and I believe it was stolen out of the mailbox as I never did receive the key. I don't recommend this mailbox. I have been using a PO box since this incident and am now looking for a good locking mailbox. (One that keeps mail dry and is not easy to break in to). I certainly won't be purchasing this one again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good tool to fight ID theft I bought the white version of this mailbox after hearing about someone going through the neighborhood taking mail from each box as they went. I decided on this box because it has a wide opening that can accept large envelopes and small packages. It has been a good box except for the plastic top that started to turn yellow after about a year. Now the box is kind of two toned. The lock door hinge is mounted on a plastic piece so someone could rip it open if they really wanted to. But at least I would know about it and they wouldn't be very inconspicuous. At $80 it seems kid of pricey, especially with so much plastic. If it was all metal I would have been more pleased with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money! This mailbox sounded like a good idea - everyone wants to protect themselves from identity theft. I give this product only one star (would have given it zero stars if I could have) because it can still be easily broken into. Ours was smashed through the top. The top is plastic and someone was able to break into it by whacking it from the top. Don't waste your money on this product - instead, look for one that locks AND is solid metal.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice looking--but it has issues I bought this mailbox in white seven years ago but, as another reviewer wrote, (1) the top turned yellow quickly. (2) My mail lady does not like the lock feature as it was difficult for her to put the mail in the slot so I was never able to use that feature. (3) Wasp decided this is the perfect place to live, and it has been an ongoing battle trying to keep them out! (4) To add insult to injury, the door hinge broke through the plastic so now the door flops open because (5) the magnet catch broke during the first year,. I've replaced it several times but l I can't fix it anymore. Now I'm looking again for another mailbox which hopefully will keep out wasps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's Worth the Money We moved into a new house in January that already had a mailbox ready for us to use. It wasn't anything special and did not have any type of lock on it. One day I decided to put outgoing mail in the box, and later that day found it on the road 5 miles away. Someone had gotten into the mailboxes around the neighborhood and stole all the mail that they could find. That's when I went to Home and saw this mailbox for sale. I thought that it was kind of expensive but it had a lock so I thought I would try it. I've had the new mailbox for a couple months now and haven't had any problems and love the all the mail that it can hold. The only reason I gave the box 4 stars is because it took almost 2 weeks to get delivered. If I would have known that I would have just went to my nearest Home Depot store and bought it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Built to last This box replaces an identical one destroyed by a car (after excellent service for 13 years) and we were happy to find it still available because of its enduring operational excellence. This new one has a smooth action on the lock/inner door just as the original did and we anticipate years of service going forward - barring any other speeding cars!
