Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This is a good product, but with one major flaw. The top is made out of plastic!! As to why this was done is beyond me, and ruins the security feature in my opinion. Spend just a little more and get Model 2450B that is all steel, you will have to special order it at the store or online, but it is worth the extra money for your privacy. Pass on this one... Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Large mailbox, flimsy lock This mailbox is very large. We tested it with all sorts of mail before mounting it to the wall. It fits books and magazines with no problem. The slot in the front pushes back so that mail can drop in. If the mail is too large, it is visible and can be pulled through the slot. When you open the slot, it also reveals a ledge for outgoing mail. We didn't mount and use the mailbox because the lock was so flimsy. It was difficult to get the mailbox to close and once it was closed, a quick pull loosened the lock. We're returning this and looking for something more secure. February 23, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great, Sturdy Mailbox I needed something safe as my mail was being stolen out of my front porch mailbox. This is a large, lockable box. Quite sturdy and simple to install myself. I love it! The slot is like a postal mailbox, so thieves cannot reach in slot to take anything out, but the mail person can fit all mail including large envelopes. June 12, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by poorly constructed Screws fell out and parts did not align well. The lock constantly catches and it takes several tries to close the mailbox and get the lock to work. November 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sturdy and Good Looking Nice looking on our post. Compartment for outgoing mail is creative and as secret as it probably could be, given that you cannot lock the postal carrier out of that section. A couple of times the carrier did not get the incoming mail all of the way through the slot, more the fault of the carrier than the box. Nice and secure; would be tough to fish mail out of it. We did a lot of research on line. This one is the best value out there. Hard to find in the stores. Installation would have been much easier had the manufacturer provided a template for the screws, but it wasn't awful. April 30, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by There are better locking mailboxes out there for not that much more We had one of these from '91 to 2004. It was OK in that it discouraged the casual drive-by mail thief but it could not sustain someone willing to pry open the door. Cons: Although it was surrounded by a shady hedge and faced north, never receiving direct sunlight, the plastic top weathered from black to chalky gray in short order (the door stayed black, however). Outgoing mail flag is plastic, it quickly bleached to pink and then fell off entirely. Door lock was cheap and a little fussy and sometimes took some jimmying to re-latch the door. One time the nut holding the latch got loose and the entire latch assembly dropped into the box. Sometimes mailmen new to our route didn't understand that incoming mail should go into the lower slot to drop into the box and we'd find our mail crammed into the outgoing shelf. The slot will not fit a "small" Priority Mail fixed rate box, used to find those perched on top of the box, which sort of defeats the purpose of having a large locking mailbox. This mailbox shattered into several dozen pieces when a neighbor accidentally tapped it with her SUV (honestly, it looked like it exploded and she hit it so lightly that she didn't even realize she had backed into it) so we replaced it with an all metal box. Pros: it can hold a lot of mail inside, 2 weeks worth so long as you're not a big catalog shopper. Slot is wide enough to easily accept 8.5x11 catalogs, 9x12" envelopes and the weekly grocery circulars. It was easy to install onto a wood post. Any hardware store will cut a key copy (similar to a padlock key in size). Although I have small hands, I was not able to fish mail out of it, if the mail had properly dropped inside. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by How does 21 years sound? Twenty one years ago I bought three units in Point Loma... When I remodeled them, in 1991, I used these boxes. I just bought a duplex in Lemon Grove and needed to replace the mailboxes... Wow they are still making the same box I bought so long ago and which have served my tenants admirably all these years... I'm getting two more today...:~) September 12, 2013
