I got 2 mailboxes and they were both broken in the box. Check the mailbox before you leave the store.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MYSELF Mediocre Design
Simple design. This pedestal mailbox is held together by one small diameter threaded bolt running through the center, results...not very secure. It is light weight, tends to move a bit if gently pushed[high winds?]. It is top heavy. Being out in the elements, this mail box should come with stainless hardware. These must be purchased separately. Other reviews mention no outgoing mail holder. I place the mail inside the pull open door and close it for there is no other place to put it. Key mechanism seems flimsy and cheap...to have duplicate keys made is impossible. I tried several locksmiths in town and no one has the correct blank. This mail box will serve its purpose for awhile, but I have doubts it will hold up well.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Sodapop Nice Mailbox but only accepts letters
I just bought the mail box today. Took it out of the box and was impressed with the look and quality. Then I opened the door where the mail delivery driver would put the mail. Back in the box it went. you can not accept any size package in this thing. its strictly for receiving letter style mail. The slot was about an inch wide. We buy stuff from ebay and amazon all the time that would fit in a normal sized mailbox. yea not going to happen with this one. So if you receive normal letter mail then this is the box for you. If not, keep looking..

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by OldGuy Tip on Creating the Cement Pad
The other reviews helped me make the right decision to get this mailbox by Solar Group. We're very pleased. Here's a tip on creating the cement pad. The mailbox base is 13 1/2" x 10" so I made a frame box of 3" board, 16" x 14". The hole was only about 4-5" deep and a 1/2 CU FT bag of cement was perfect. I put the base on the pad while it was still wet and it molded to the base. I lifted the base off when the pour was still damp (bolts could still move so I was careful). Here's another tip, go to the Solar Group web site and download the install instructions to get comfortable with the project you're getting into. Good luck.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LL27 Looks great and sturdy
So far so good. It's been up for few days and looks great, and even the postwoman likes it. The only thing she said was it doesn't fit small packages but they seem secure. You can leave the mail for days if you travel without stopping the mail delivery. It took a few days to install since it needed a concrete slab to be mounted on. Poured small slab deep enough and wide enough to support it and let it dry for a few days.. Drilled 6" holes and inserted 3/8" x 5" anchor bolts. Did not use the ones that came with it because they didn't seem strong enough.Mounted ,tightened and ready to go.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TEM Misleading and not secure
Needed a locking mailbox due to thieves grabbing mail from standard type box. Purchased this "locking" box thinking my mail would be somewhat secure. After mounting it, discovered that you can slide your hand into the mail slot and retrieve any mail sitting in box... Why even put a lock on it??? Crazy that the design allows you to slide hand in and reach bottom of mailbox. Additionally, a simple standard screwdriver can pop the locking door in 2 seconds. This mailbox is not secure and should not be advertised as such. Waste of money.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Becky Company stands by product
I purchased this mailbox 3 to 4 years ago and it worked well. There are a couple of things I don't like -it's NOT waterproof. The mail gets wet. I have put a large plastic zipper bag in the box for the mailman to put the mail in in case it rains.
Other than that, I do like that the mailbox locks, and it looks nice. But, the design of the mail slot could be better so that mail cannot be fished out.
A couple of weeks ago the mailbox suddenly became very unstable. Every joint on the post came undone. It was barely standing. I wrote to the Gibraltar company (Not Home Depot) and they replaced the box for free due to a defect. Because of this, I will give the box a 5 star rating.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by JimJay Nice looking but the base is not substantial enough
We had a rash of vandalism in our neighborhood. A group of teenage boys came thru and destroyed six of these mailboxes easily. They tried to push ours over. I had it anchored in the ground with cement. What they did manage to do was easily break part of the post so that it became wobbly and unstable. I replaced it with a more substantial mailbox.
It is a very nice looking mailbox and I'm sorry I can't give it a better rating.
