Rated 1 out of 5 by Don't buy it. Having read other reviews we didn't try to drive it in, but set it in concrete. When completed. the mailbox was very low. We tried to install the large size Gibraltar mailbox according to the instructions that came with the post, but the holes did not line up. We had to drill new holes. I would expect that a company that makes mailboxes and posts would try to make certain that the installation instructions would work for their products, and just try to follow them once to be sure.. Also would expect that they knew basic USPS guidelines for curbside mailboxes. The post is sturdy and good looking, just LOW. June 9, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by How low must it go? The "No Concrete Needed" steel post kit requires an install depth of 18" according to the instructions. All you need is a rubber mallet the instructions read. It popped out at 18", 22", 24" and 28". This kit does require some form of anchor especially if you are going to use a standard or large sized mail box. The other down side is the mounting bracket situation. I bought a large Gibralter box to set atop the post. None of the holes aligned and the weight (especially after the addition of packages) was to much for the post. I am downsizing to a smaller mailbox in hopes that it alleviates the alignment and weight issues. I should also add that the mounting plates sold in store of the same brand are meant for traditional post mounts and not the extended flat arm on this item. I learned the hard way. May 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by down but not out my gibralter heavy duty black mailbox and gibralter heavy duty drive tn post was hit by a car and survived ., even after a 30 mph collision only the post base was damaged the same mailbox still sits and looks great in front of my home. thank you for a superior box and post. Rated 2 out of 5 by In New England, you'll have to dig a hole first I bought this about 2 years ago. There's no way it will go through rocky New England soil by itself. We had to dig a hole. That's almost to be expected but now after 2 years I just noticed that the clamp holding the support arm has rusted through. The support arm is hanging by a thread and I actually had to jury rig it with...wait for it...duct tape. I've been trying to find a replacement for just the support arm and clamp but I can't find anything. Putting in another post in the middle of winter is not going to be feasible. I just hope the duct tape will hold until the Spring. December 24, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Hollow Steel Post Nice look when installed, but in caliche soil, I recommend a Post Hole digger - do not pound in, I'm sure it will buckle. While the concrete was setting, I filled the post with the leftover concrete & let it set. Now, that post isn't going anywhere! Easy attach mailbox arm, & solid installation of braces will ensure the box won't fall off, and will be hard to steal. Nice, glossy black color should last for years, but I have some touch-up paint for the Camaro I can use, if it begins to chip off. May 14, 2014
