After my expensive metal mailbox post was hit by a vehicle and destroyed for the fourth time, I decided to try something a bit less expensive. The Stratford mailbox post is only plastic, but from a few feet away it looks like metal. Advantage - you don't ever need to paint it!
When it arrived by mail, the mounting kit (screws, nuts, washers, etc) was missing due to a hole in the box. A quick toll-free call to Gibraltar got it to me in just a few days at no cost.
Installation was easy - just cut a 4x4 post to the right length then concrete it into a hole in the ground. Let it sit overnight. Then all you need to do is slip the plastic post (two pieces) over the wood post and screw it on, then attach the arm and mailbox platform, and finally attach the mailbox itself (not included). Final assembly only takes about 10 - 15 minutes.
One note - this mailbox is several inches higher off the ground than my previous mailboxes, but I guess it passes muster with the delivery lady.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ritch Great for the price/Easy to install
Very easy to install using quikrete! Old post was rotting and tilting and unsightly. Now it looks great! Dug a hole almost 2 feet and placed a tube in the hole and layered with gravel. Leveled the 72 inch pole in the center, poured the quikrete and added water...no mixing. Set in under an hour and then added the post cover and mailbox. Took only 90 minutes!

This was easy to install. We put it over an existing post (although nearly rotted).
Looks very "plastic" but works well for a good price

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nana Nicest mailbox post in the whole neighborhood. GREAT VALUE,
Very easy to assemble. Looks great. Also purchaced Home Depots heavy duty mailbox as shown in photo. Best mailbox I have ever had. (And I have had alot of them. I'm 60 years old.) Very heavy duty mail box with great magnet on it for very secure closing. This one will defantly not pop open by itself. It was worth ever penny I spent on it. I also got free shipping right to my house and only took a few days to get here. No damage with product in delivery at all. Don't look any further, just get this one. You won't be sorry and your neighbors will envy you.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MamaRock Excellent curb appeal and excellent value
After a week or more of comparison shopping I decided to purchase this classic looking mailbox and post. It was easy to install, sturdy and once completed was the nicest standing mailbox in the neighborhood. The combination of the Gibraltar mailbox and Stratford post was an exceptional value and have the appearance of ones found at high end stores. I am thrilled with my purchase and thrilled that I saved a ton by ordering from Home Depot.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MiamiJay Easy, quick, simple and beautiful.
Ordering from The Home Depot was easy and the shipping, quick. Very simple installation instructions with the post (also purchased companion mailbox). I installed the 4 x 4 post (with one 80# bag of concrete) one evening and then mounted the post and mailbox in about 30 minutes the following morning. Consideration: I chose black to match home hardware but also because South Florida well-pumped sprinkler water can leave white mailboxes with a rust color. Several neighbors have commented on how nice the new mailbox looks.

Our post arrived quickly. When I first saw it I thought it might be too big but once assembled it was a perfect size! It is good quality and durable for all type of weather. It's gives our house a nicer look and for the price, it was just right! Couldn't be happier with our purchase.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by VixVax A woman can totally install this herself!
I just wanted to share my experience as a woman putting in this post alone. I had planned on having a guy friend help me out just in case I got stuck, but he was running late so I started myself. No problem! I used a post hole digger to dig the hole (very easy) and set the post with quick crete. The 4x4 wood post and bags of concrete were heavy, but not so heavy I couldn't manage (I'm 5'3" and 110lbs). I did not need to brace the pole - once I had the post level, the concrete set quickly so the post didn't move at all. I was able to install the decorative post over it right away. So, I installed the whole thing myself and when my friend arrived, I made him take me to lunch :D
Girl... you can do it!
