This mailbox is really sturdy and installed on my existing post with no trouble. I love the overhang above the door - will keep most of the rain and snow out!

Excellent box. Top quality fasteners. Great feel when operating door. Home Depot sells this box from 25% to 50% less than other venders. Couldn't be more satisfied.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2k3Hoo Just ran into this mailbox with my truck. Mailbox: 1 Truck: 0
My best friend has this mailbox at the end of his driveway. I pulled out of his driveway 2 nights ago and turned too sharply trying to avoid another vehicle who was coming into my lane across the center line. I dragged this mailbox all the way down the side of my truck.
I just got back from the dealership with an estimate for repairs. This box did $3000 worth of damage to my truck. All it did was fold the lower right tab over onto the door of the box so he couldn't open the door. My buddy straightened it out with pliers in 30 seconds and it's good as new....
I'd say this product is exactly as advertised.

Our old box had suffered repeated attacks and repairs, including an ax attack that cut the top. I ordered this box knowing that it is vandal resistant but not vandal proof so added some extra protection by mounting it between horizontal pipes that extend from the post. The post is a piece of 3 inch drill stem that is driven 4 feet deep and the box mounting frame is 1 1/2 OD pipe that is welded at a right angle to a bigger pipe inserted in the post, allowing the box to pivot if hit. The pipe frame is formed into a hoop over the front of the box and a set screw keeps the box and frame from being lifted off the post while still allowing the pivot action. This should defeat most attacks but only time will tell how well this works.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by SuburbanMom Door hinge rusted through within 4 years!
The door didn't open and close properly after a few months, had to slam it shut to keep the door from swinging back open. Mail gets damp or wet every time it rains. The door hinge rusted through within 4 years of owning it, poor quality for a $70 mailbox, expected it to last longer. Warranty doesn't cover "environmental" damage like rusting. Don't waste your money on this mailbox.

Many people have written reviews about purchasing one of these mailboxes after a vandalism incident. I purchased one before; mostly due to plow damage. Long story short, it is mounted to a pressure treat post in the form of a "T" with another (standard) mailbox. The vandals approached the mailbox from my side and knocked everything over. This mailbox was undamaged and then apparently used to smash the other one flat. Needless to say we will be purchasing a replacement of this style.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by UBHappy A Durable Mailbox that Almost Meets Specifications
Our 10 year old mailbox took a beating (literally!) by vandals in March, 2013 and had to be replaced. I choose the Gibraltar (Solar Group) Tuff Body mailbox for its strength, durability and good looks. The mailbox shell, door and flag are made of 12 gauge steel sheet while the floor and back panel are 18 gauge steel; by comparison most conventional mailboxes are made from 20-22 gauge sheet metal. The Tuff Body has tack-welded construction and a heavy-duty full length door hinge rather than metal-crimping and rivets used in typical mailboxes. The Tuff Body has a magnetic latch to keep the door securely closed and is fully protected, both inside and out, against rust and corrosion with a baked-on powder paint coating that should last for many, many years. The Tuff Body dimensions are similar to a standard size mailbox: 20.25” (outside length; 18.25” inside length with a 1.25”recess for the door and 0.75” recess for the back panel), 7” (width), and 9.75” (outside height; 9” inside height). The Tuff Body requires some simple assembly/attachment of the flag to the mailbox and you have to supply your own hardware (screws) to attach the mailbox to your post. Although the Tuff Body that I purchased weighed 16.8 lb, approximately 15% less than the 20 lb. weight in the Tuff Body specifications, I would still consider this a sturdy, durable and vandal resistant mailbox that is well worth the extra $$$. See the attached pictures that illustrate some of the points discussed in this review.
