Is height of 4X4 "flexible".

I have a 4X4 post already in the ground that is 33 3/4 high from the ground. It had the same or a similar vinyl cover on it before. Will my current post work with this vinyl sleeve?
Asked by: Bob
Yes, the bottom of the horizontal arm is around 36-inches. My 4x4 post was 32-inches above the ground with room to spare.

Whitley Plastic Post Mailbox, White is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 13.

The screws supplied that are exposed to the elements, and there are quite a few, should be stainless. Coastal customers especially will see rust on the white surfaces before long. Don't think the post cap will be around long with a snap on fitting. No problem fitting on 2 x 4 that has been around a while. Good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Looking Post that’s Easy to Install This past weekend, I installed the Whitley PVC mailbox post, and I am really happy with my purchase. The 4x4 pressure-treated (PT) post I purchased fit perfectly with room to spare. If your PT post is still wet from the treatment it may be swelled and not easily fit… simply place your post outside to dry for a couple of days and it will shrink as all PT boards do over time. Someone complained about the post height to the bottom of the mailbox is only about 39-inches, but they forgot to add in the curb height, which is about 4-inches, and that brings the total height to 43-inches from the road surface, as the USPS specifies. Another person claimed the arm is not secure, but the package included a note and 2 extra C-size screws to secure the arm… you just have to drill your own holes in the sides of the post. I also caulked around the 2 end caps, and where the arm meets the vertical post. This will further secure it and keep out water and bugs. I used double-sided tape to affix my house numerals. The only thing that I wasn’t happy with is the mailbox stuck out too far and was about 2-inches in front of the vertical post. I had to do some customization by drilling 4 new holes for the mounting plate on the arm by moving the holes back 2-inches. Now the box sits right where I want it... with the back against the vertical post.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HOA Required Mailbox My HOA required the use of this mailbox post to replace what I currently had. The price was not too much and it only required a 4 ft. section of pressure treated lumber to install. Setting the post was no problem; however in order to prevent erosion of the post I painted it in Glidden Gripper primer to protect it, The thickness of the paint was enough to make it very difficult to slide the PVC post over the pressure treated 4x4 post, Odd that the thickness of paint would be enough to do this; but once i pounded the PVC over the 4x4 the rest was easy. The post does look really good and I am happy with it. Knowing that is is almost maintenance free is nice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely Disappointed with the Quality We replaced our mailbox earlier this year and opted to go with the Whitley plastic white post. It was installed just fine but the quality leaves much to be desired. The arm of the post where the mailbox goes is not secure at all and easy to pull off and the back cover for the arm has popped off multiple times. We are now on our third arm cover. I would recommend paying more for a more stable arm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to install and nice looking for a plastic post... Contrary to another review, this post fit perfectly on a 4x4 without needing a hammer or any brute force. I dug out the hole 18-24" to seat the 4x4 post using a regular spaded shovel. I added some quick concrete and filled the hole and slipped this post over. It took about 2 hours from start to finish with installing the mailbox too. Decently quality (it is plastic) and easy install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install After a neighbor ran over my wooden post, this replacement fit nicely over what was left of my old post which was already secured in concrete. I used the extra screws provided to more securely attach the cross beam. Added the larger "B" mailbox (metal) this time which allows most magazines to lie flat. Even tacked on some brass numbers to the post. Looks great and I don't have to keep painting it like the wooden one.
