You put your outgoing mail in the nearest big blue mailbox usually found on a nearby street corner. Or, you can take your mail directly to the post office. While most City Postal Carriers (a City Carrier is probably what you have if your mailbox is attached to your house and your Carrier delivers on foot) will generally pick up your outgoing mail, I'm pretty sure they aren't required to. Because you are usually within a few blocks of a blue drop-off box or the Post Office itself. This is also why wall mounted boxes don't have flags to notify Postal Carriers of outgoing mail.
On rural routes (where Carriers deliver by vehicle to curbside boxes) Postal Carriers are required to pick up outgoing mail, sell stamps and provide other common services since rural customers may, in some cases be 100+ miles from the nearest Post Office.
You can decide for yourself if this is fair or not but, if you're in an area designated as "city" where the carriers deliver on foot to a mailbox mounted on your house, you are expected to take your outgoing mail to the nearest blue drop-off box or to the Post Office. If you want to leave it in the mailbox and your Postal Carrier picks it up for you, great. But remember, he or she is doing you a favor. It's not really part of the job. That's the whole purpose of all those big blue drop-off boxes. Read Less

Answer:
This is a 'problem' with all wall-mount boxes, as far as I can tell. Ours is on a porch protected from the weather, so we turn the outgoing mail on end and let it stick out over the front edge. That seems to work. I'm going to ask our postal carrier what he prefers...

You turn your mail the long direction and let it hang a little out of mailbox so the post man/woman see's it.

I have this in black. I've had it for about 3 years. it is under a roof over my porch. The paint looks very dull and faded. The sun does not reach it. I have tried many different polishes. What can I use to bring back the dark black color?

I've had this box for a couple of years in white. Annually, I use carnuba spray wax on it and it keeps it shiny for about 6 months or so.

Oops. I went to answer this but mine is white. If yours was high-gloss (as mine is), I can see where it may have become oxidized and dull. It *shouldn't* happen that quickly. Polishes sometimes only continue to dry out the finish further. But usually a decent grade of car wax (with cleaner) removes the dull, faded look and the wax restores the original appearance. Can't say for sure this will work. Good Read More

Answer:
If it has faded the only thing you can use is Krylon Spray Paint and to keep the color we say put car wax every 6 months on it.

I am trying to find a mailbox that will fit on the same screws that the old one is on, I don't want to have to drill anymore holes in the siding.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in our products. I am sorry but we do not make the numbers but I would think any style of number would work. You may have to use Gorilla Glue to adhere or rough up the space a little where numbers will go so they will adhere.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS WAS A REPLACMENT FOR THE OLD ONE. I HAD SHOPPED MANY OTHER SITES AND NEVER FOUND WHAT I LOOKING FOR. I FOUND IT AT HOME DEPOT. July 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth the wait for delivfery. Very easy to order on line. Product description was accurate. Fast delivery and easy to install. No additional parts needed. June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not happy I ordered this mail box. My husband put it up and the following day a crack started. I called to reorder another one. Upset because my husband had to put holes in the wall. Received the new mailbox and my husband was about to place the new one up and again, another crack. Ridiculous... Not happy. So now I don't know if I'm going to have another problem if I order another one. I will be mad if I can't get one without a crack. I don't want more holes in my wall...... May 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Can't believe no store stocks this. But I found it online so easy and it came very fast. Very sturdy too. June 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very satified Easy to install, and very large capacity. blends easily with our décor. Just what we were looking for. November 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mailbox continues to have mass and retain its original color When our original Woodlands wall-mount mailbox in white rusted through the hinges and bottom enough where a heavy rain would collect inside and become a kiddie pool for our mail, it was time to replace it. Not wanting some fancy-pants super mega locking mailbox, we just wanted the same thing; and Home Depot was the only store that had it. It was simple to remove the old rusty hunk off our house and "install" this one (i.e. slip it over the two existing screws), and we are pleased to have a new mailbox which has kept its mass and retained its original color for this long. May it continue to do so for years to come. I'm not sure how long it will take to rust through like the other one, but now that we own the house, we can battle the rust with the myriad of products which I'm sure will be advertised in my email. Thanks Home Depot! August 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Functional & attractive plus large area for the mail inside the box. The entire experience of ordering on-line was very easy. The mail box was easy to mount to the wooden mounting piece. The inside of the mailbox is large enough for small packages. The mailbox is both attractive & functional. July 14, 2015
