Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I wanted. This product does just what I wanted. It darkened the windows enough to help keep the house a little cooler with out completely blocking the view. From the outside the glass looks just like on the picture. Because of the static, lint seems to jump onto the film, especially in carpeted rooms. There also seem to be some faint striations on the the film from manufacturing. However, neither was a big deal. The baby shampoo mixture works just as well as the packaged spray and you have to keep the glass and the film dripping wet to be able slide it around or you can peel it off and redo it until you get it right. I would recommend cutting this film to size (slightly smaller than the glass) because it seems to snag and stretch and does not trim well with a razor, even a brand new one. Overall, I love it. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love love love it!! perfect window BLACK out! ez enough for beginner cinch for advanced. get the big roll and do the whole house with some to spare. all the house windows and doors are covered; can even add design vinyl over tint. can not see inside from out even with inside lights ON! reduces heat coming in, thermal blocking. doesn't fade, peel or shrink. if you like bright sunny light then this may not be your tint as with this windows will always look like its dark or cloudy out due to Black color. does not effect visual clarity of window. professional quality tint, thick vinyl material not paper thin film April 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this stuff! After just buying our first home in California's Inland Empire, our electric bill was getting crazy in the summer heat (temps near 100). It was either pay through the nose or be miserable, so for a modest investment, we tried Gila window film. Couldn't be happier at this point. Easy to install (just make sure you have a sharp blade) and we have lowered our electric bill $75. Room temps upstairs have dropped dramatically too. My only complaint is with the time it took to process and ship the order. HD: you could learn a thing or two from Amazon aboutshipping. September 4, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for what I needed // blackout sleep room I'm a shift worker and recently moved; the new MBR could double as a sun room haha. All windows are 6ft tall, 2 face east, 4 face south and 1 faces west ensuring the room has ample nuclear lighting and warmth. There are also 4 east-facing windows in the on-suite MBA. The 2" wood blinds look nice but do virtually nothing to reduce incoming sunlight. Being in a very nice home, I did not want to tack up blankets or use blackout shades so I tried this out. While Gilla doesn't advertise this product as "head reducing" the specs show TSER (total solar energy rejection) of the black privacy film at 59%. This is also the best rated darkening film with a VLT (Visual Light Transmission) rating of only 5%. So...while it may not sport the extreme TSER of 72% from the platinum energy savings film, it does provide a nice effective thermal value to the windows. Prior to application, if you placed the back of your hand within 6" of a "closed blind" window you could feel the heat roaring through the window even during Jan/Feb winter sun. Turning on the bedroom lighting during daytime had no effect. The application went well; lesson learned on first window is: don't cut sheet to size...cut it 3-4 inches wider and taller than needed. Trimming off the excess after placement is a breeze; as I wanted blackout effect I overlapped the window frame about a half inch. Trimming to window edge left a searing thin line of blinding light through. After completion, the 5% of sunlight that still penetrated was still too bright for my liking; I applied a second sheet of film to all windows. Now, in a bright sunny day you can still see enough to walk around safely but it's plenty dark to sleep comfortably. And, when I place the back of my hand against the closed blinds during mid-day sun, I feel no heat. I am expecting to see a significant savings in air conditioning. The external effect is the windows look tinted. Instead of seeing white blinds through the windows, you see black glass. I think it looks good; far better than blackout shades, cardboard, wood or tacked blankets. The visibility through the windows is now slightly distorted; I would not recommend this to people who still want a clear view outside. This is a godsend for shift workers that are conscious about their room still looking good. And the price is simply unbeatable. I used 3x bottles of the application solution, and bought the application kit with the edge razor & trimming tool. The little green trimming tool was awesome; cannot imagine doing it without. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it My husband works nights, that is why I first ordered this product. I wanted to darken the many windows in our bed room. He had put cardboard and blankets over the windows for years to block the light, and I was tired of it. We put the film on the inside and the out side of our windows in our bed room and its PERFECT. Its dark enough to sleep and I can still see out. We liked it so much that we also put the film in our living room (not doubled, we only did that in the bed room). We have a fantastic view of the MT. And could never enjoy it because it was too bright. We put the film up and now my blinds are open all of the time. We also put it up on our sliding glass door in the kitchen. Now when people walk up on our deck, they cannot see in, but we can see out. I love it for security reasons. There is only one draw back that may be a draw back for some. This film does have some streaks in it. I would liken it to what a screen door would look like. But compared to what other films cost, this was not a deal breaker for us. Everyone who has seen it loves it and plans on buying it for their own windows… August 25, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product for Yuma, AZ I live in the desert area of Yuma, AZ where the sun shines hot & bright all year. This film has made a difference in the 2 months since I put it on all of my windows. At the same time I added Home Depot solar fabric screening. In combination, both products have kept the heat out. Though the black film is excellent by itself, with our summer temperatures of 115+ for 4 or 5 months, I changed my outside screening to whole window screening. I can leave my drapes open & enjoy the desert view. If you don't live in the desert, the film may be all you need. It was 93 degrees yesterday, 3/17/14, my home was a cool 72 degrees inside with windows closed @ 1:15 pm. I didn't turn ac on until 3pm; it was on for 4 hours. Can't wait for the hot days to come. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Why didn't I get this stuff sooner! Wow!!! What an amazing difference this tint has made. The "Privacy" grade has made my bright, hot rooms tolerable!!! Be respectful of the installation process and everything is a breeze!! UBER IMPORTANT - USE A EXACTO KNIFE WITH PLENTY OF REFILL BLADES. Conventional razor knife or box cutter may only tear the tint and not cut it. Try out different cutters and see which works best for you. September 7, 2011
