Customer Questions & Answers

Is this film one-way where I can see outside, but no one can see in ?

Asked by: ATurner
Be warned, the comments on this product are correct. At night, when your house is lit inside, there is not only no privacy, but the film keeps you from seeing out. Small but important point that would have helped to know on the product packaging. Next to useless at night unless you're looking for a mirror instead of being able to see out.

How do I figure mirror side of film?

Asked by: Greg
The side that is under the protective layer is the side that goes against the glass. I noticed that the adhesive label that held the roll together in the box was attached to the protective film. This will give you a hint. If it is a larger window, have someone help you to prevent it from doubling over on itself. Use plenty of solution (distilled water and clear baby shampoo) on the window and both sides of the film. Massage into place, squeegee from the middle out, trim with a sharp razor.

Does this provide any insulation from the cold?

I'm looking to buy this film for energy efficiency as well as blocking UV rays. I read about it reducing heat which is nice in the summer but in the winter would it then work to shield cold air from coming in? Living in apartment in NYC so not like a large house. Thanks!
Asked by: Elena
Your right about the summer, one whole side of my house directly faces the sun on those hot summer days. I used the "mirror" film on those windows and it does seem a bit cooler in those rooms. I do keep the blinds drawn also. As far as winter goes, it has no value in keeping the house (apartment in your case) any warmer. I do have a "warning" about using the film (except the very opaque or "stained glass" films) - During daylight hours, it makes it difficult to "look-in" the windows from the outside BECAUSE the majority of the light is on the outside and the film reflects the light back "out.". BUT During the hours of darkness the REVERSE happens! The majority of the light is now on the inside and the film reflects the light back "in" making it very easy to see-through the windows from the outside. REMEMBER to close blinds/curtains after dark!

3 ft. x 15 ft. Mirror Privacy Window Film is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 123.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs clearer description The product is easy to apply. Probably one of the best window films I've worked with from that point of view. But while it does add some reasonable privacy during the day, it does nothing at night except keep you from seeing out. At night, with your house lights on, not only can anyone see in, but it keeps you from being able to see out at all.

This really should have two people to install if you are putting it on a large window or sliding door like I did. It looks good on the inside but the outside shows bubbles. I did not buy the install kit so this may be why I had such a hard time. I did install a similar product last summer but the product was thicker and it was very user friendly. This product is like trying to put Cling wrap on your windows it keeps sticking to itself. I used a credit card and a bath squeegee to get out the water from underneath but it still looks bad outside. I recommend if you can find a product that is thicker to purchase that on instead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good results! Great product! Read directions and maybe watch utube video. Installed by myself but, do recommend a helping hand on larger windows. Key is patience, lots of application spray - follow directions and presto!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great! Bought the kit too...very easy installation and works as advertised! Can't see in from the outside at all during the day yet not too reflective.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install, but passers-by stop to look into the mirror I have installed this product for privacy issues (my windows are close to the sidewalk at eye level). The installation was fairly easy, but I suggest practice putting it on and off on a few small squares and using a larger squigee for larger windows. The only "bad" remark I have is that people passing by (especially young women) stop to look at their reflection in my windows. (Some fix their hair, makeup, clothes, take selfies, etc.). I find this annoying and wished it did not have a mirrored finish on the outside. But overall, it does its job as nothing inside my house can be seen from the outside, not even our big smiles or waves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spend 20 minutes to read instructions/watch demo I have a 3 clear glass inserts in my balcony railing and wanted to darken them up for some privacy. I bought the mirrored film and briefly glanced at the instructions before attempting to install - big mistake. I found the installation process cumbersome and my results were awful (lots of creases, bubbles, etc.). Going back to the drawing board, I decided to go to the Gila website and watch the demo videos which were a big help. Key tips: clean the window thoroughly, be generous with the application spray, cut the film at least an extra inch wider than needed on all sides (to be trimmed later), follow their squeegee technique, and put the video on your phone/tablet as you install. Although the film-peeling process was still a bit finicky (would help with two people), my results were 10 times better (bubbles and creases virtually gone), and you can barely see through the balcony from the street. Very nice result!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW Super Easy Let me start off by saying this was the first time I ever tried installing any type of window film. It was so easy. Don't let any of the other reviews deter you. JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! If you cant follow instructions just pay someone else to do it. Its that simple. The product turned out great! Blocks all unwanted eyes during the day time. But beware you will need blinds when it gets dark out as the reflection follows the direction of the light.
