Customer Questions & Answers

Will this particular film reduce heat?

Asked by: Leah
yes by about 10 degrees I figure. My air conditioner used to run almost continuously. But not now. I used it on skylights.

Does this have to go on the outside of the window to work properly?

We have 4 windows 1ft x 4ft and 1 halfmoon non of these open, all the window bases are 7ft from the floor. It would be impossible to mount the film on the outside.
Asked by: Mich
Yes I think so since it is antiglare.

On the window films is there one available where you can look out and people cannot look in.

Have a basement apartment that faces the parking lot and also have a cat that likes to look out.
Asked by: Bob
No people cannot look in from afar - they have to be really close/next to the window to get a partial/obscure view

bronze glare control window film longevity

Does the UV blocking ability of this film have a use life? I.E., does it have to be replaced occasionally? If so, how often.
Asked by: sally
I used it for one season. At the end of the summer it was starting to blow off. We live in the country with fall winds. I didn't try to reuse it because it isn't that expensive and we didn't want to go back on the roof again if it didn't last a second season. . I used it for skylights and it greatly reduced my heat by about 10 degrees. This will be my 3rd year and I am sold.

I never could get the perfect bubble free appearance that the professionals get. Total of 40 panes. This was the only window tint job I ever did therefore I cannot compare with other suppliers. The instructions did not exaggerate about the tiniest dust molecules they will look HUGE. The whole job was tougher than I thought. To get the bubbles out drove me nuts. I could not get the close up appearance as good as I want. The end result I'm very glad of the appearance , the bronze color adds class to the curb appeal of the house

The end result with the film applied was not quite as nice as the professionally applied film on the other windows, but for the price it is excellent. The one issue I have with the product was that its either not prominent or not mentioned in the description that you need their application solution to apply.

Gila films require a bit more maneuvering while cutting those thin/somewhat thick strips of film right after application - film rolls up on you while cutting (I used a plastic ruler to prevent from rolling while cutting), but it does the job. To minimize the effort, use a sharp knife/razor with corner edges and plenty of spare blades for medium to large jobs (about 4 to 6 films worth). The finish looks good and the furniture fading due to sunlight, is no longer a concern. I installed this film on multiple angled and regular windows in the living.

We apply it to the outside of our skylights in the late spring and remove in the fall. (The sky lights add warmth in the winter but heat in the summer.) It has such a warm glow and cuts down considerably on the air conditioning bill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy To Install, UV Filtering, and decent Heat Control. Lacks Clarity but for $12 you can't beat this., I've tried pretty much every type of Gila tint meant for residential use with heat blocking characteristics. I'm going to break them down for you since no one did so for me and I had to do a lot of research to figure out what I wanted. There are 2 types of Gila Tint/Film. Static Cling: Easy To install, thicker tint, not as clear but doable. Paper Backing Adhesive Film: Harder to install, creases easily, professional look if done right, Perfect Clarity, super thin clear backing. There are a few types of gila film within these types. Titanium/Platinum: These are the best of the bunch for heat control. They are metal reflective and people can't see inside during the day, but you can see out perfectly. At the same time at night you can't see outside unless outside is lighting. Mirror effect. Blocks 50%+ heat. 99% UV, and 67% glare plus has low-e coating to retain heating during winter. Super tint of sort. Bronze: These are meant for those who want to see outside at night, while retaining some heat control, and a bronze look to their tint. Less mirror effect from inside at night. Blocks about 30% heat, 97% UV, and 67% Glare. Light: These are meant for those who want to see outside, but want the silver color, not the bronze color. Some go with these for dual pane but in my case all my windows are single pane so ignore this review for dual pane windows all together. I don't recommend this film. I'd go either bronze or full bore with titanium. Still can't see very well outside at night with these. Blocks up to 30% heat, 91% UV, 56% glare. ____ So with these static cling versions it seems there comes some issues such as clarity need a day or two of curing in the sun to reach full potential, and even then it's still a bit wavy when looking outside. Look at pics for examples. It's easier to install for those who never installed tint before, and it seems to come in smaller, cheaper one window sizes. In my case It fit 1 massive window. It reduces sun glare a lot, which is why I used it for my computer room, all the while letting me see outside during the day time. I'd use it again for a more temporary setting. But I'd get the bronze adhesive tint version sold only at lowes if I was doing it in my own home office as I'd love some more clarity that this version doesn't have. I'm also pretty good at installing tint so the difficulty isn't a problem. I'd give this a 4/5 review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JUST WHAT I WANTED I have wrap around kitchen windows, and my kitchen is south facing directly in front of a main street. I wanted something to counteract the head light glare, this product did that and more, I wasn't expecting it, but it also provides a little more privacy when I am in the kitchen at night, I definately have noticed not so many people staring me down when I'm in the washing dishes smack in the windows! Keeping heat inside up there or heat out has always been an issue, so much that i recently put new windowa in up there hoping it would do the trick, I have had more sucess with that with this $9 (on clearence at my local store) than my $800 worth of new windows! I'm rushing back and getting more while it lasts!
