There will be a joint line of course, there is no way around it. However, work very carefully, or have a pro install, and the line will be minimal. I applied mine on sliding glass doors, continually applying water laced with baby shampoo, (2 teaspoons per quart) it was not easy but it went on and looks great. This product looks like it would work great in the summer months by keeping the heat out, but will it also work in the winter by keeping the heat from exiting my home thru the windows?

I have found the Light Film blocks about 35% of the heat and my electric bill attests to it. We get lots of sunshine in the Hill Country of Texas.

Answer:
Probably not. The thermal radiation wavelengths that you'd need to affect to keep heat in in the winter are completely different from the solar radiation wavelengths that it is designed to reduce. I'd recommend instead a low-e storm window, such as this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/LARSON-32-in-x-51-in-2-Track-Double-Hung-Storm-Aluminum-Window-L20133251E/205392853

This film is not weather proof, thus you will need to install it on the inside of the skylight.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 56 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but larger size needed for sliding doors MyMy townhouse has windows facing eastand west, and the house would get pretty hot. I ordered this film but realized I didn't get a wide enough size for sliding glass doorsdoors, so I exchanged it. The new roll was enough for both doors with a but left over (which I am going to use on some smaller window panes). I did one door by myself, but it is easier with help. It didn't go on perfectly on the top edges, but it looks pretty good, and does the job. And I think Some of the reflective-ness prevents people from seeing inside. Also, definitely get the applicationkit. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Installation was easier than I feared I was afraid the installation would be a bear. We were covering two panels of a sliding glass door. I watched the installation video several times before the job. It was well worth the time and made the installation go smoothly. The size of the doors turned out not to be a problem with two people on the job. The final result is really good. No bubbles or problem spots. We are very pleased with the light tint and we've eliminated the problem of UV destruction of drapes and flooring on these east-facing glass doors. In addition, the manager of our Home Depot store assured me that if I wasn't satisfied with the result he would refund my purchase price. How about that! June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by it's just awesome! I'm very pleased with this product, we have a huge window facing East and we get good hours of sun, you can imagine how hot was this room. Using the film on the windows just solved the problem, I still have the clear view through the window, but less heat. Easy to install! August 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible product Save your money this horrible product. Just buy sun darkening screens. You will spend a little more but well worth it. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Heat control Light window film Easy to put up if you use plenty of spray. Helps prevent view of inside the house from the outside, electric bill has gone down on cooling. I recommend this product for any window, mine are double pane and you can FEEL the difference. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by does the job well I've used both this product and the titanium heat blocking film. They both work well. I would use this one in the future since it costs less. Installing the film is straightforward but you have to be meticulous in cleaning the window. Make sure to clean with a good ammonia based cleaner and then with a solution of a quart of water and a half cap of baby shampoo. Use this solution to wet the window and the film when you install (no need to buy special made solution). May 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TERRIBLE PRODUCT This was a complete waste of money! We spent hours cleaning and prepping our windows but as soon as we applied the film it did nothing but bubble up and stick to itself! My eyes crossed just looking through the mess it made! We squeegeed and squeegeed, and reapplied and reapplied again and again with no luck. Terrible to work with, no matter the technique. July 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I am using this product on my garage door windows. I just insulated the garage doors and needed to cut down on the heat coming through the windows. works great and looks good. April 21, 2015
