Answer:
It's difficult to say how much heat will be blocked, there are too many variables. However, in my situation I would estimate an easy 25%. My electric bill, for cooling, went down that much. My windows are double pane and face west. Whatever your situation, it will help reflect the heat.

I have one old, large picture window that heats up my house in the summer. the rest of the windows are newer and more efficient. If I used this product only on the picture window, would it look odd? Would it block significant light from the picture window? We like the light... but not the heat.

Answer:
Percentage of light blocked would be hard to guess at, but my wife an I have not noticed a real loss during bright sun or dark rain clouds. But, if I had to guess, about 20%. The amount of heat blocked certainly makes up for the very little light loss. I have used several window films but this one is the only one I would recommend.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 81 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible product Save your money this horrible product. Just buy sun darkening screens. You will spend a little more but well worth it. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by does the job well I've used both this product and the titanium heat blocking film. They both work well. I would use this one in the future since it costs less. Installing the film is straightforward but you have to be meticulous in cleaning the window. Make sure to clean with a good ammonia based cleaner and then with a solution of a quart of water and a half cap of baby shampoo. Use this solution to wet the window and the film when you install (no need to buy special made solution). May 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Heat control Light window film Easy to put up if you use plenty of spray. Helps prevent view of inside the house from the outside, electric bill has gone down on cooling. I recommend this product for any window, mine are double pane and you can FEEL the difference. May 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TERRIBLE PRODUCT This was a complete waste of money! We spent hours cleaning and prepping our windows but as soon as we applied the film it did nothing but bubble up and stick to itself! My eyes crossed just looking through the mess it made! We squeegeed and squeegeed, and reapplied and reapplied again and again with no luck. Terrible to work with, no matter the technique. July 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I am using this product on my garage door windows. I just insulated the garage doors and needed to cut down on the heat coming through the windows. works great and looks good. April 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cuts down on heat entering window easy to apply, Just be sure to spray the window glass generously before applying film, really helps to squeegy properly December 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall a good product and would use it again. After reviewing the specs for the various Gila window films on the Gila website, I purchased the "light" window as it allows the most visible light through and I didn't want the windows to be too dark. The film application was straight forward with two people. The Gila video on Youtube is quite good. I purchased the application kit which was worthwhile. I ran out of the application spray and made my own (per the video) using water and baby shampoo and used the spray bottle. Be sure to buy a wide window cleaning razor tool (available at HD) to pre-clean / scrape the windows after wetting them using the solution. I also bought a package of Dickies lint-free reusable / washable wipes which were great for cleaning the windows and wiping them dry after the film application. After the windows cured for a day or two they look great, and the heat transfer reduction is noticeable. After the film has been applied and cured for a few hours, It's helpful to have someone outside to point out the air and water bubbles to squeegee out as they're more noticeable from outside. I would definitely use this window film again! June 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good film, easy to use After a first attempt to work out the bugs, applying this film to six windows was simple. The only difficulty I encountered was trimming to fit. The trim tool provided with the kit does not do corners well. I would cut the film closer to the actual window size and use a utility knife to clean up the corners. The heat in these rooms is noticeably diminished with the film in place. May 6, 2015
