Customer Questions & Answers

The privacy factor sounds terrific, but can I see out at all?

We just applied some of the black film to the sliding door and we can still see the outside quite well, but it seems the frosted film may just appear frost white looking out as well. Is that true?
Asked by: Don
No you can't see thru to the outside, does allow the light in but you definitely block some of the light. Perfect for privacy.

Can you see anything from the outside in?

Asked by: Alboogie
This film does not totally block light. You will shadows if backed by light. I used this on an exterior door with windows and the application does provide privacy and security.

Is this product textured?

I am looking for a frosted window film with a smooth surface to match existing windows in my shop. Does this product have a smooth/plain finish or is there a texture or pattern?
Asked by: Al
No. It is a smooth finish, no texture.

Install when when the weather is cool. A warm window makes installation difficult. You can install on a warm glass, but keeping the film and window wet is a trying experience!! 2. Clean glass. Spray and clean glass with microfiber to avoid lint. Clean glass with razor and wipe your hand across glass to ensure it is clean and no residue is present. Spray and clean glass a third time. 3. Spray glass with Gila spray. You can make your own with Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Two drops to a spray container. 4. Apply cellophane tape to both sides and overlap tape. Press tape together. As you peel cellphane tape back it will separate the film from the clear plastic. Peel back to 1/3 or 1/2 length. Spray exposed film side with Gila spray and respray window. 5. Hold film on window with one hand. With the other hand, gently pull remaining clear film away as pulling down a window shade. 6. Gently lift lower half of film AWAY FROM WINDOW and Spray window with Gila spray and spray under side of lifted film. Film will now slide around on window. Use yellow squeegee to press air bubbles from under film. 7. With a new box cutter blade, 28 cents at Wal-Mart, hold yellow squeegee in corner of glass. Cut from the corner of the glass to the outside edge of the film at a 45 degree angle to allow a release tab. Hold squeegee against the glass and cut film sliding the blade and squeegee at the same time. 8. At the end of the cut in the corner of the glass, cut away at 45 degrees to the outside of the glass Holding the squeegee against the glass, pull the excess trim away. Final trim any excess with the squeegee holding down the film and trimming with the blade. 9. Final smoothing any bubbles with squeegee. Lightly spray outside of film with Windex and wipe with microfiber cloth to remove any residue. You are done!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Installation I installed the frosted window film on my front entrance door and side lites. The installation was a breeze, contrary to what other reviews have said. The key to a successful installation is to watch the installation video on Gila's website and to follow the instructions. You can save yourself the $15 for the installation kit as long as you buy the application solution for $5 and you have a sharp utility knife and plastic scraper on hand. You'll also need a squeegee on larger windows. Make sure you clean the windows and cut the film oversize so you can trim later. I found it better to over spray the application solution than under spray it because you can always squeegee the excess out later, but it allows you to move the film on the window just in case it's not aligned properly. Once you've got it positioned, work the application solution and air bubbles from the middle out and you will have a perfect installation. When trimming with the utility knife, support the edge of the film with the plastic scraper and follow the knife with the scraper edge to finish the cut in the corners. Once installed, it will give you 100% privacy, day or night while still allowing daylight in. I highly recommend this film. I should have done this years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent adhesion! Pro-product. This film is not for amateurs to install. If you haven't done it before, you will most likely get bubbles and folds. Also, you should know that this isn't a temporary solution. It should be for long term installation. Removal is hard, which is a good thing for longevity. If you are a amateur or want the option to remove in the future, go with a spray on type of frosting. That can be removed later with a razor scraper. Enjoy!

I have done several windows and doors with this product to give more privacy. Looks like a professional installed job. Stanley sells an exacto knife that works better than a utility knife for trimming. Helped my girlfriend do her windows three years ago and it is still holding up well. Installed ours five months ago. Priced well for a do it yourself product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more peeping toms into the bathroom! My wife asked me to put up something on the bathroom windows to prevent someone from looking into the bathroom when she gets out of the shower. Previously, we had paper blinds which served this purpose, but also were very annoying to collapse down to allow the bathroom windows to be opened for fresh air. Also the paper blinds would occasionally get torn or discolored from the sunlight and moisture in the air. Installing this frosted film on the windows was a fairly straightforward process involving thoroughly cleanining the windows before application, cutting the film to slightly larger than the window size, spray on the applicator solution, peel film backer away and apply film to window. Then trim film to window using the cutting tool in the kit (sold separately) and squeegee film to ensure no bubbles and consistent contact with window. The film can be removed and reapplied within 24 hours if needed, but I did not have to do this on either of my bathroom windows.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ever struggle to apply a cellphone screen protector? Now multiply that frustration but 1000. This product is THE WORST. First, the directions on the box lead me to apply the film backwards. Then when the liquid dried and the film fell off, I read the directions on the insert and realized my mistake. Then, don't get me started on bubbles. They'll never go away. The edges will never be straight unless you own a massive cutter and can line up the sticky staticky film perfectly. Learn from my mistake. Dont be cheap. Hire a pro. They'll make it look way better than you ever could and it's only a couple hundred bucks.
