Answer:
It is mirrored on the outside but only during the day. At night, the mirrored effect is gone, and you can see inside a home. It looks great and serves valuable purposes. Definitely controls the heat coming in and also provides privacy from anyone passing by outside your home from seeing inside. Even when you get close enough with your nose to the window, all you will see is yourself during the daytime.

Yes. I've used this in two houses in the last 20 years, and it both reflects the sun and heat AND provides privacy during the day. We've tested it and someone standing right outside of a window during the day can not see anything inside, even with a light on inside, they can only see their own reflection, even when they cup their hands to the window. We think it's worth it for the heat reduction and daytime privacy because we lower shades at night anyway. Read Less

It is mirrored on the INSIDE, and can be seen through from the outside, so no, it would NOT provide privacy. My windows are 2nd floor, so it didn't matter, I was interested in heat reduction.

Yes, it will help keep your home warmer. Just like it reflects radiant heat on the outside, it also reflects radiant heat on the inside so you don't lose as much radiant heat out the windows.

I put them on my sliding glass doors 2 years ago.. It definitely helps cool the room but the room is still warmer than the rest of the house. In the winter, the room is still the warmest.

Answer:
Hello Tracy,
No, this will not keep your home warmer. What they mean by heat control is that it reduces the heating effect of the sun coming into your home through the glass, by reflecting the rays back to the outside.

If I were to use this and then took it off for the winter, so that I get the advantage of passive solar heat, can I save the film and reapply it in the spring?

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Window film edges could stick a little better, no matter how applied edges would not stick September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Made a huge difference!! The reviews seemed to be hit or miss and I was questioning how good they would look installed. Didn't want the "orange peel effect" or bubbles. It made a huge difference with regards to heat and the install couldn't have gone smoother with the separate install kit. I'll be installing this on more windows in my house over the next few months. Highly recommend! August 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Materials had defects I am disappointed that the film had defects throughout the roll. At the end of the roll I lost a large portion. I like the look and it does help coolthe room. However the window is still quite warm to the touch in direct sun the difference is that it doesn't hold the higher temperatures as it did before. It is not the same as a professional 3M product. It is ok for a less expensivejob. If they replace my defective film I be pleased. August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible I bought this wider version b/c of a wider window. It did not work as well as the smaller width roll I bought. This one kept rolling in on itself even though I had someone else helping me. It would not stick to the window. I used an entire roll on one single window due to how many times I had to redo it. August 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great but the roll was short 30 inches Not sure how this happened but the roll was not 180 inches. I didn't find this out till after I made my first cut and it was installed. Total lenght was 12' 6" so someone messed up. Pretty hard to take it back to the store after you've already used part of the roll. When you buy make sure there's only one roll, in mine it had a small roll outside the larger roll and it really messed up the project costing me another roll of film and a trip to the store. overall a nice product that's pretty easy to install, just follow the video. July 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AMAZING DIFFERENCE INSTANTLY!!! First of all...YOU have to buy the kit that is made for the installation.I would not suggest this is an 'owner' project unless you really know HOW to install film. I had a person experienced in the installing. He knew how to cut it. He knew how to clean the window inside FIRST with a no lint towel. He knew how to put the baby shampoo on the bare window then using the tool that is like a mini squeegee to go back and forth over the window to get out the bubbles....heat instantly STOPPED the heat at the window from coming through!!!! \ THIS IS A JOB for someone that knows what they are doing. But the VALUE in the price and even paying someone to put it on is WELL WORTH it!! IMMEDIATE heat reduction is achieved.I had called a service that comes out and does it ALL. But they wanted $450 for ONE window. YOU HAVE TO INSTALL ON A WARM/HOT DAY OR THE FILM WILL NOT ADHERE EASILY. August 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It WORKS!! Peel, peel, peel!!! My mom missed the part about peeling the backing off and couldn't figure out why it kept falling off the sliding glass doors. She had already thrown away the boxes so I watched the Gila YouTube video and, voila! August 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by difficult application this product was a bit too thin to handle easily during installation. August 9, 2016
