Product Overview

Plants that grow inside a cage utilize the sides of the cage to support the stems and need fewer ties. Place one plant inside the cage and guide the stems through as they grow. This 42 in. heavy-duty tomato cage is ample enough to help keep even the largest tomato plants contained and under control without blocking sunlight or rain. Keeps plants growing tall and off the ground for better air circulation. Large openings make harvesting easy. Reusable and great for the organic gardener. Can be used in a garden bed, raised garden, or for container gardening. Cages are easy to take up at the end of the season for storage.

  • 4 long stakes keep cage anchored securely
  • Legs: 7-Gauge wire, rings: 8-Gauge wire
  • 16.140 in. top ring diameter (inside dimension)

I am growing two Big Beef tomato plants in a container. Is this cage sturdy enough to support them at harvest? If not, what would you recommend?

54 in. Galvanized Tomato Cage is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavy duty product When I picked this up at the store, I thought I might have gone too big by getting this 54 in. tomato cage instead of the smaller 42 in. ones. But now that I have them in the garden and the tomato plants are taking off ... I'm glad I bought these instead. The gauge of the wire used in these cages are significantly thicker than the 42 in. cages. I had no problems with the 'legs' bending. Also, there are 4 rings on this cage while the smaller 42 in. one only has 3. Finding that the extra ring is holding my tomato plants better. Hoping that the sturdy construction will give me several years of use. Never got more than 2 yrs out of the smaller ones. So far, well worth the $1.20 more than the smaller cages.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job for a cheap price They do the job well for what they are intended for. I bought five of them. Like others, I did have a couple of the welds break but no big deal. Just put a little epoxy on there to reattach them. If that's more than you're willing to do then go to Amazon. They have these and also heavy duty ones but the heavy duty ones are more than twice the price. They're sold in lots of 4 and the price is $38 and change. I'd rather buy the cheap ones and spend a few minutes repairing them occasionally. I really thought they would be just fine, even with the couple welds broke but I decided to go ahead and repair them. Bottom line is, they do the job well. Don't expect top notch quality products for a very small price. This is the kind of item where living with lesser quality is not a problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from junk I bought three of these at the local HD. When I took them out of the car I noticed that one of the welded joints had broken apart. It happened in the car, even though they weren't tightly packed. I should have returned them, but I didn't. And the same thing happened to the other two as I was pushing them into the ground. They can't take any pressure at all. I doubt they'll even hold plants as they get heavy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tomato cage Made of heavier material than most but very unhappy with the welding. I purchased three cages and two of the cages had broken welds, The other one the weld broke when sticking legs in ground. All cages need a better spot weld.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from heavy duty tomato cages reasonably priced heavy duty tomato cages that hold up well when plants are laden with fruit. this was an online purchase, about half were the incorrect size, no problem exchanging. when making an online purchase that store staff selects inspection for broken spot welds and correct items is recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the best We bought 8 of these (wanted 9, but bought the last ones in stock). The welds had broken on two of them and one of the vertical wires was missing on another, so returned those. The ones that we kept are doing well and we're very happy with them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Purchased 30 Returned 10 These won't last long. The weld broke on 10 out of 30 of these cages by just bending open the bottom supports
