Durability of Pressed Laminate

I have purchased bathroom vanities made of pressed laminate before and when the laminate got wet, it warped and fell apart.

Is this vanity made of pressed laminate? How could I prevent the above from happening, especially on the right side of the vanity that is next to the bathtub and shower?

Jeff,
Thank you for your inquiry. We can confirm that the structure of the Glacier Bay 19 in. Vanity in White is a combination of MDF and particle board with a laminate overlay. Please rest easy that with over 25 years as a leading supplier of bath vanities, we can assure you that our bath cabinetry is designed for bath use and will last a long time under normal use. The Board we use is of the highest grade and is finished with a laminate to color match and protect. Many cabinets in the market today for bath and kitchen are made of Particle Board but, most importantly, we do also support all of our vanities with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Answer:
Hi Jeff,
All low cost vanities are made of compressed wood aka particle board. The only solution is to buy a vanity made of solid wood.

Answer:
I wouldn't paint this cabinet. It has a painted surface which seems very much like a paint resistant formica. That being said if you absolutely must paint it --- sand with a light sandpaper and primer it well. Good luck.

Answer:
You can paint it if you want to. It shouldn't need to be primed it is already white so there would not be a need to prime it. Not really sure what type of paint would be best though.

Yes, but it requires a primer. The paint type is related to type a primer used.

Answer:
The basin itself is oval. It is 15" wide and 10" come toward you. The depth of the basin is about 5". The size of the entire sink top is 18 and 1/2" wide by 16 and 1/2" coming toward you from the wall. It is molded slightly around the edge to prevent water from running over the side and is indented on either side of the faucet space to hold the soap or soap dispenser. Nice little unit.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy with purchase Needed a small vanity which are hard to find. This size was perfect. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks good, top wasn't level and other issue So far....it looks ok. TIme will tell. The sink does not sit flush on the vanity, so I had to use a shim to stop it from tilting left to right. Was I the only one w/ this issue? The feet on the vanity are not adjustable, so, if you are installing in an old house (as I was) you may need shims to level the vanity in the bathroom. You can buy plastic ones (for toilets) and get like 10 for $1.99. They work well. Seems odd the only thing holding the sink to the vanity is silicone caulk. I'd be more comfortable if there were 2-3 fasteners that did that instead. In my photo, you can see when the sink and vanity are flush to the back wall of the bathroom, the front of the sink overhangs the front of the vanity and creates an 'empty space'. This is supposedly where you are supposed to put silicone to bond the sink to the vanity, but you can only do that on the sides where it is touching the vanity. Had an issue w/ the plunger for the faucet I bought (to pull to plug the sink). See photo. The center hole in the sink prevented the plunger from going straight down, I had to bend the plunger assembly to work around this. ( I bought the Mandouri 4 in. Centerset 2-Handle High Arc Bathroom Faucet to go w/ this vanity. ) Also, vanity fits in back seat of a car if you are picking it up. Its good for a small bathroom. August 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice vanity I got this to replace a pedestal that was a little too big for my 1/2 bath. I wasn't able to open the door all the way with the pedestal there and with this one not only can I open the door all the way, I also have a cabinet that I can store things in. I love that. It was also very easy to install and looks great. September 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Fit This vanity fit perfectly in my small bathroom. Even though it is small it still provides ample space to store things and work on the plumbing underneath. January 14, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Vanity for A Guest Bathroom Had no problem installing the vanity or the sink to match the brushed nickel hardware. Tight space to do plumbing in, but came out great !!! Got an extra $10.00 off ...so was a great buy !! Good looking too. April 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JUST RIGHT Glacier Bay is the preferred product for my landlord to replace bathroom vanity combos. This was my first time doing it and I must say it was so easy I'd do it again. It helps that the price was awesomw. Thanks to Home Depot where I buy all my DIY needs. April 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by perfect size for my laundry room Even though this is not a standard laundry room sink, the storage capacity and size of this vanity is perfect for my smaller size laundry room. It fits perfectly in the space next to my washer and dryer, and is in the exact space for the water connection to the sink. The installation was easy and the finishing work will be done soon to incorporate into the overall built-in look. I like the cabinet size and the overall construction of this unit. It is not easy to find something that fits so well into a small space. Great product. September 26, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect tiny vanity for small bathroom I finished off my basement bathroom addition with this small vanity. The bathroom is extraordinarily small so this vanity is just the perfect size in the space. Having the storage underneath is great too. The quality is average, but since it comes fully assembled you don't have to try to assemble it which is a huge bonus. The quality is similar to a sink I purchased for 4X the cost of this one, so more money doesn't indicate better quality. Overall I'm very happy with this vanity. October 21, 2014
