Customer Questions & Answers

how can i get new door hinges?

One of the door hinges on my Glacier Bay surface mount medicine cabinet door is broken, how can I get replacement hinges? I went to HomeDepot and they do not have any hinges that are compatible with the medicine cabinet.

How do you install side mirrors over the door hing hardware?

Door hing screws & nuts on top & bottom prevent the side mirror hangers being installed in the provided holes
Asked by: Bill
Among the hardware and mounting brackets included with your medicine cabinet are 4 aluminum angle brackets that install on the outside of the cabinet (2 per side) using the 4 (approx 1/2-inch) Phillips-head sheet metal screws. Locate the 4 screw holes; one on each corner of the cabinet interior, and attach each of the 4 brackets using one screw which is fed from the inside of the cabinet, through the hole and into the pre-drilled hole in each bracket. Note that the hole in the bracket is slightly off-center. Rotate the bracket until the hole aligns with the screw and sits flush in the channel designed to accept the bracket, and tighten down the screw. Affix the black caps to hide the screw heads. Once the brackets are installed, apply 2 strips of double-sided adhesive tape to each bracket, peeling off the protective outer layers. Center the side mirrors above the adhesive and gently press down to make contact with the double-sided adhesive tape. Note that once attached, it will be difficult/impossible to remove the mirrors without breakage, so be sure the mirror is centered before pressing into place. Alternatively, if you didn't want to use the side mirrors, you could use wood/laminate or other material cut to the same size as the side mirrors. Good luck.

This medicine cabinet is exactly what I want but I need it in chrome. What is the frame actually made of? Could it be painted?

Asked by: skmoe
The frame is some sort of plastic composite but I have no doubt that it could be painted. The sides are mirrored if surface mounted.

It's beautiful and stores so much stuff! We get a lot of compliments on it. I swear, people actually compliment our medicine cabinet! We redid our bathroom six months ago and it's probably one of my favorite things about the bathroom. It's great for applying makeup and doing my hair (I use the interior mirror because you can angle it and get closer which is great for doing makeup).

I purchased two of them. I had them open the boxes to check for any damage. No damage. I had them installed- recessed in the wall. I believe recessed in the wall keeps them sturdy. Absolutely love them. Tons of space! There are mirrors on the inside of the door as well as the back. I have so many cosmetics and they all fit. I purchased small clear rectangular containers at Bed Bath and Beyond to hold my lipsticks and Q-tips and so on... They were installed three years ago. Not a single problem. I love them so much we are putting two more in the other bathrooms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful Just love it. We recently renovated our bathroom and we're looking for a medicine cabinet and this one has been so much more than just additional bathroom storage. First of all, the frame surrounding the mirror is so eleant looking. Definitely not something I would pick for a contemporary look. It gives you the option to either recess mount it or surface mount it. We went recessed since that's the look we were going for. It comes with a hanging kit and was pretty simple to put up after creating the opening. The shelves are made of glass and are adjustable. It also comes with side mirrors if you want to surface mount it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mirror, mirror I like the size of this cabinet centered over my 31" vanity sink in proportion to my bathroom. I must mention that the finish is lovely but it's not 'brushed nickel'. It has more of a brownish tint, which fortunately happens to go nicely with the bronze fixtures I have. But this finish will not match brushed nickel faucets. I installed the cabinet solo and didn't have too much of a problem. Installation was tricky over my porcelain sink so I laid a pillow inside the sink, just in case. Instructions were DIY friendly and the cabinet is not terribly heavy. For an exterior mount, I had it up and admiring myself in about an hour. The wall-stud placement in my bathroom wall wouldn't allow me to install this as a recessed-mounted cabinet like I would have preferred. I was only able to affix one bottom and one top screw to a stud and then used several heavy duty metal (instead of plastic) wall anchors for the remainder of the screws. The cabinet can be flipped so that the door opens either way and the hinges are adjustable. If DIY-ng solo, be sure to have screws for your top clips (2) ready at-hand when you prop the unit on the bottom bracket because once the unit is placed on the bottom rail, you must hold it in place or it will fall forward. The rail does not run the entire width of the bottom, so you have some play to position and center as desired. I feel that the height I mounted it at is a good height (3" above faucet - minimum is 2") for the mirror and reach, but I may consider raising it another inch or two because the sink stopper-pull is right there and it feels a bit too tight between the sink and the base of the cabinet. I also feel the exterior mount extends too far over the faucet, for practical purposes. Just be sure you measure and check stud placement appropriately for whichever option you plan to go with. The front mirror gives a terrific lengthy view, as do the interior of the door and back of the cabinet, which are also mirrored. It allows for multiple reflection angles under lighting. The interior is very spacious and provides ample room for personal items. Also, the cabinet door hinges open and close gently, so I don't fear it crashing into my wall accidentally. I don't care for the fact that the glass shelves have about a 1/2 inch of play within the width of the cabinet and simply lie on the plastic mounts. The small plastic hole fillers don't really fit in the side holes well either. Also, though I have left them off until I settle on a paint color, installation of the side mirrors could have been designed better as they attach only by double sided sticky pads (not used in recessed mount). My pictures don't do it justice because I haven't decided on the wall color or lighting. But despite my work in progress, the cabinet is quite nice looking and overall feels very solid and well made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks High End Very well made reasonably priced cabinet that adds a touch of class to a 1/2 bath remodel. Finish is very nice in the brushed chrome, and with the added detail on the door makes it a real value. Easy to install with included brackets if you do not recess in wall (was gonna recess, cut the hole and ran into vent pipe!).Quality on the inside also with mirrored back and door along with 3 glass shelves. Hinges adjust easily to square door to finish job. Good value and well made bath cabinet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Built to Last After installing and using these for about 1.5 years, the screws on the bottom hinge pulled out of the mirror door. When I took it apart to fix it, I discovered there was no solid support frame, just some kind of paper press board. For $170 you would think there would be a solid wood type frame on which the hinges attached, but no, these were cheaply made. I would recommend Hampton Bay change its design and add a solid wood frame structure, and recall units as they are built. We cut our walls and recess mounted the units, so now we either have to spend $170 to replace or start over (re-sheet rock walls etc). Disappointing for the quality look but cheap build. Wood frame underneath would have cost the manufacture dollars, but I guess they were too busy pinching pennies to increase profit. A recessed cabinet should last for years, this is not built to last.

The first box had all accessories, the second missed the side panels and metal brackets to hold the side panels.. Home Depot exchanged it without a problem. For surface mounting, the side panels are needed and to be attached with double sided tape only, which I am afraid will not hold them for many years. That is why I'd like to find a little L-shaped metal support to be placed so it supports the mirrored side panels. The frame is better than the one I saw at Menard's or Lowe's. The finishing of the frame looks very good with the brushed Nickel vanity lights that I bought at Home Depot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Medicine Cabinet poor hinge design Do not buy this product!! I would give this product a zero if I could!! 3 months after installation the top hinge broke away from the mirror frame. The screws for the hinges are placed too close to the inside corner edges and pulled right out. That sucks!! It is such a good looking medicine cabinet. Not sure what to do next.
