Is the pipe/arm 8" long or does it extend out 8" from wall?
Asked by: TheWall
It won't screw into your fitting without destroying it so it doesn't matter how far ii extends out.

I tried several times to fit this into an existing fitting but could not get enough threads in to seal correctly. When I came back to read these reviews I saw one that mentioned the lack of taper on the threads of the fitting and realized that is the same problem I was having. I will now go to the other big builders' supply store to purchase a better piece. Hopefully Home Depot will accept this return the next time I find myself in that store.

You thread it into the wall fitting, you thread the shower head onto the arm and enjoy your shower. Apparently not so with the Glacier Bay Brushed Nickel Shower Arms. They simply refuse to thread into a 1/2 inch fitting. Armed with a 1/2 inch fitting in the store I tried all of 8 inch long Brushed Nickel shower arms on display (9 of them), both ends. They would not go more than about one and a half turns. I also tried a couple of the shorter 6 inch Brushed Nickel shower arms with the same results. However, the Chrome shower arms appear to fully thread into the fitting. Definitely there is a manufacturing issue with the Brushed Nickel shower arms regardless of their length. That is at least for the stock in the Howell, NJ store. Glacier Bay should remove these items from the shelves and investigate the problem. Some customers may try to force the arm to turn and end up damaging the plumbing in the wall and having an expensive repair on their hands.

All of the shower fixtures and faucet were chrome, primarily Delta. I wanted to change everything to brushed nickel. I purchased this shower arm, followed instructions for plumber tape and installed it. Leaked at the wall end. Took it out, retaped, and reinstalled. Same thing, leaked at the wall. Couldn't tighten it any more. Took it out and put the original chrome one back in. No leaks. Don't know what the issue with this product is. Treads looked the same on this product and the one I was replacing. Having a leak in between the walls is not desireable. Staying with the original shower arm.

It goes into the female adapter about 1 turn. I looked at the thread and held it to a straight edge. It appears there is no taper to the thread as there should be. Each of the threads touches the straight edge. I'm very disappointed that Home Depot doesn't do a better job of ensuring the manufactures are producing products to standards, in this case National Pipe Thread Taper (NPT), a U.S. standard for tapered threads. Now, I have to make another trip to return it.

This product has threads problem and it slowly leaks water. My shower bathroom has back-to-back with drywall across the bedroom. I take out the drywall and I figured out the leak. I tried several times by re-taping and re-installing but it drips a drop of water every minute. I am returning the product.

For all the reviewers that say the threads are not correct, the threads are correct! The product description clearly states 1/2" IPS connection. And the DIY weekend plumbers haven't a clue what this is. IPS (Iron Pipe Straight) connection is different from a NPT (National Pipe Taper, or National Pipe Thread). You need to know what thread you need before you buy.

Bought a Sharkbite drop ear elbow for PEX to shower arm connection Have a standard 8" glacier bay brushed nickel arm --would not get further than maybe two turns if that. Sharkbite joints/connections use NPT. There's something off with this arm
