Product Overview

The Glacier Bay Automatic Household Water Filtration System is NSF Certified under Ecodyne Water Systems. It will reduce sediment, sand, grit, debris, pipe scale and other loose matter with a self-cleaning water filter that can be flushed on a set schedule thanks to its programmable functionality. This filtration system is designed to be plumbed into a home's incoming water supply pipe, where it will capture sediment from the water and periodically flush them down the drain. It does not require a filter change because the system automatically cleans itself, triggered by an electronic control that counts down the days until the next automatic flush of collected sediment. A 60-micron filter is included with the unit, and optional 100 or 150 micron filters can also be purchased.

  • Whole-house filtration system reduces sediment and sand in your water
  • Delivers clearer, cleaner water throughout your home
  • Includes one 60-micron filter, which is cleaned/flushed on a frequency of your preference
  • Programmable auto-cleaning setting works on a battery-powered electronic controller (uses one 9-Volt battery, included)
  • Includes mounting bracket, drain hose, adapters, clips and hose clamps
  • NSF certified under ecodyne water systems
  • Backed by a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty

Customer Questions & Answers

Does this unit filter iron?

My water has brown stain, and was wondering if this unit can filter that as well!
Asked by: Pete
If you add an aspirator to mix some air with the household water each time it is used the iron and rust form larger particles and can easily be filtered out. You will probably have to back flush more often. I have installed many systems similar to this, there are several rust removers on the market which work on this principle all are expensive but do the same thing. I have been a professional licensed plumber 44 years.

Do the fittings need to be facing up?

For my system it would be better if they were facing down but I'm afraid of leaks. In all the pictures and diagrams they are facing up. Thank you.
Asked by: Joey
not really i wish the come straight as i need the straight one, they can spin around and will not leak even under pressure, use some plumber's grease on o rings

Does this system have stainless steel threads? Also is this a battery operated system and if so what type of battery?

Asked by: Julie
Plastic threads. 9v battery or optional plug.

Water Pressure?

Will this filter affect my water pressure, as in lower it significantly? Or at least noticeably?
Asked by: fuscia
My water pressure has not changed. If anything I think once I am able to replace the washers and screens in my spigots it probably will increase some.

Customer Reviews

Automatic Household Water Filtration System is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not for calcium buildup I have city water and have never had a problem with large particles in my water. I was looking to eliminate calcium buildup which I've discovered on several faucets and I also notice when I use tap water to fill up my humidifiers. However, I found that this filter does nothing to remove small contaminates like calcium and lead. I still use a filtered pitcher for my drinking water. Before installing this filtration system, I cleaned my kitchen faucet thoroughly with white vinegar and the white crust was back within a month. I will say that it was easy to install and came with all the parts my husband needed to do it himself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good product would i recommend this product yes, especially if you have well water be advised that if your sifter in the well is bad you will have to manually backwash the filter because your pressure will drop. if you have city water it depend on how old is the city system you may experience same problem like with well water manual backwash, overall the product does what is made for it it filtrate a large particle that eventually will end up in your faucet aerator and water do seem to taste better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flushing did not turn off I had the filter for several months. We were on vacation and the system turned on the automatic flush, but could not turn off. So I had a water bill that was $400. I checked the meter reading and the utility company read it correctly. I am switching back to a regular filter that use cartridges. Can't risk another $400 or worse water bill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great PRE-Filter This is a great way to get most of the big particles like sand or rust out of the water before it gets to the main water filter. Since this is a stainless steel filter screen it's not designed for removing chlorine or other very fine substances. I installed this right after the pressure tank to remove the sand like particles that clog my drip watering system, water timers and other water valves. So far it's been doing a great job. This unit is easy to install the only thing that takes some planning is where the water from the filter will drain to. On my install it was easy, I let it drain on the ground outside my pressure tank enclosure. This would normally discharge into a household drain pipe where you would need to provide an air gap. One drawback is the filter has only 90 degree fittings on the inlet and outlet. These are special fittings with double O-rings and a "C" clip retainer (see photo). If you have a straight run where this filter is going to be installed you will have to make plans to accommodate the supplied 90 degree fittings. Once installed, the filter can be set to automatically clean itself or you can push the "Clean Now" button to clean whenever its needed. The automatic cleaning cycle is in one day increments, up to thirty days between each cleaning cycle. One note; the instructions show an air gap into a "Tee" on a drain pipe (page 8). I would check local codes to make sure that a "P-trap" is not required to prevent sewer gases from entering the living space. This is a great filter for removing bigger particles that can clog water timers, hoses and appliance water valves, since its automatic its one less thing to remember.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality reflects the price The automatic self-flushing doesn't clean completely the filter and it still requires rinsing it manually once in a while. I had to disassemble the whole filter to clean it manually twice, including the valve and the solenoid. My house uses well water and there is plenty of sediment - it probably works better in houses with city water. I do like the filter and I can't wait to see the company improve the self-flushing process, so that the screen is rinsed too, not just flush out the sediment on the bottom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better for a different application So I had hoped that this filter would help with hard water and lime build up. Not the case here. The directions are well written with comprehensive diagrams for installation and this seems to be a good FIRST STAGE filter as water comes from the main line into a water softener and/or water heater. This filtration system seems to be geared more towards capturing larger particles like sand, larger silt particles, tiny pebbles and the like. In a hard water environment like mine, I can only expect for the filtering screens to get clogged with lime deposits limiting water flow and pressure into the house over a short period of time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sediment filter After getting this filter I realized it was specifically meant for removing sand and sediment. I have MUD watter so I don't have issues with sand or sediment, my main problem is hard water and calcium build up. I will say that the system is fairly easy to install and progam. The directions are easy to understand and follow. The system doesn't have any filters to change and cleans itself so it is pretty maintence free.
