Will this filter work with my refrigerator?

I would like to attach this to my refrigerator's existing water dispenser/ice maker.
Asked by: question
I think if your going to install it on the outside of the refrigerator line, why not? I am No, plumber. a water line is a water line. But remember the weakest part of a chain is a stressed link.

What is the cyst?

Under the product overview it says the system reduces sediment, chlorine taste and cysts. What do you mean by "cysts?"
Asked by: Bashan
I was wondering the same thing. I looked up CYST at "www.cdc.gov" found some odd things I was better off not knowing. However, this filter system is "Tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standard #42 and #53" so I feel confident is drinking my water Its a small parasite that are commonly known as "Crypto." or Cyst for ease a saying I'm sure. lol "During the past 2 decades, Crypto has become recognized as one of the most common causes of waterborne disease (recreational water and drinking water) in humans in the United States. The parasite is found in every region of the United States and throughout the world." "Filters that have been tested and certified should have wording on their labels indicating they have been listed and labeled to NSF/ANSI Standard 53 or Standard 58 for cyst removal or cyst reduction by an ANSI-accredited certification organization. To find out if a particular filter is certified to remove Cryptosporidium, you can look for "NSF 53" or "NSF 58" plus the words "cyst reduction" or "cyst removal" on the product label information. " All my quotes are from the Center of Disease Control website

Customer Reviews

Basic Drinking Water Filter System is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Filters well, but install materials are disapointing First, and most importantly, it does a great job filtering. After you run the standard purge to remove carbon from the filter it runs clear and tastes great. That said, the included installation materials (piping specifically) are really unimpressive and insufficient to maintain good flow through a kitchen faucet. They provide thin plastic tubing. We ended up spending some money and running back out to pick up thicker braided lines and redo the installation. I dinged it a few stars for a cheap and inadequate installation. The filter can be changed without shutting off the water, so do yourself a favor and mount the filter as close to the front of the cabinet as you can. Then when it's time to change you can just spin a new one on without crawling all the way under there.

Easy to install but compression fitting on the unit developed a leak a few days after it was installed and is impossible to fix. I was forced to remove the unit completely and discard it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Don't waste you money on this. The filters last about 4 weeks not 6 months. I have already brought back on and replaced it thinking I had a defective unit. These other reviews are bull and probably staged -

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great while filter lasts I bought this filter because we were tired of the Brita taking up space in the fridge and I loved that I didn't need to install another faucet - plus the price was right. We love the filter and water quality, but the filter cartridge only lasted 2 1/2 - 3 months, instead of the advertised 6 months. I don't think we use more water than any other family and I don't think our water is overly filthy (but I haven't tested it). So overall we like the filter system, but wish the filter lasted longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My water is clear again! I installed this system under my kitchen sink so I could have clean filtered water for drinking, cooking, etc. My water is no longer yellow and tastes great! The filter is very easy to install. I even installed it myself. The filtered water goes straight to my current faucet. Very pleased with this system

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glacier bay basic filter I've had this for about 2 weeks. Installation was very easy, just make sure your faucet shut-off valve is operational before you do anything, sometimes they are stuck on or leak when you break them loose). Water actually tastes really good. We used 2 different pitcher filters and that got annoying. Pitchers have more bacteria and gross stuff than you think. Not sure how long it will taste good, but we'll see. No leaks (those plastic pipes and fittings make me nervous though). Overall, I'm happy - and I don't taste chlorine anymore. Coffee is better as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Value, Easy Install With the cold winters in NY, I've been getting tired of filling my small room humidifier tank with filtered water from the fridge, so I thought this would make life easier, well, it has. Instead of holding the tank and pressing the button on the fridge in an awkward position, I can now place the tank in the sink, turn on the water and walk away until its full. By the way, its essential to use, at a minimum, filtered water in a humidifier to keep from emitting the "white dust" you get from hard water. I know distilled water is the best, but can cost you. Anyway, the whole install took 20 minutes with no leaks, I highly recommend it, great value!!!
