Answer:
I think you are well inside the operating range of the Chillerator, even with a louvred enclosure. Just keep it sheltered from rain and the wind. It is quite well insulated from my use of it.

Thank you for your inquiry on Gladiator Garageworks. You are correct, at one time this product had a convertible refrigerator/freezer compartment. However, now it is standard refrigerator (14 cu ft) and top freezer (5 cu ft).
Thank you

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Gladiator product. The Gladiator Chillerator is only a refrigerator at the bottom and freezer at the top. The unit that was able to be converted is no longer manufactured.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 90 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good garage refrigerator, lousy wheel design. Buyer beware. This is a very nice refrigerator for garage use. It's roomy and flexible and works perfectly. But... My BIG gripe is the design and durability of the wheels and the bracket that supports them. It is very poorly designed and is too weak for the job. It is to put it nicely, it is junk. My installer basically told me that that's how they are, and good luck. So, after quickly realizing the bracket system is so weak that the wheels will collapse if you try to move or turn the refrigerator, I thought about returning it. But, there are no other decent alternatives to this model, as hard to believe as it is. So, what to do? I had a big party coming up and I really needed this unit to work. That's when I decided to make some support brackets from heavy aluminum to tie the flimsy wheel "dolly" more securely to the refrigerator body and the eliminate excessive flexing at the stress points. The front wheels in particular are the worse offenders. I can't believe that this made is past a their quality and durability testing department. I guarantee you this is a major source of customers complaints and service. With the simple changes I made it is rock solid now. So, buyer beware. The unit is good, but the wheel support bracket design is not. July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Defective unit The refrigerator was delivered on time but it didn't work. (Both the freezer and refrigerator were room temperature after three days of running.) Home Depot agreed to deliver a new unit within seven days of our complaint. I'll comment on the quality of the product once the replacement unit is delivered. August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Think twice We purchased our model back in 2004, then called the Freezerator. Top side "refrigerator" has always operated well, although when our kids slammed the door shut it would often pop open the lower "freezer" door. Not good, especially in summer months. One issue that has always persisted is the ice buildup and clogging of the drain line which causes the water to drain into lower compartment and freeze. Only fix is to removal of all items and then a manual defrosting. This is a real pain as this unit houses most of our frozen goods because our indoor unit has a very narrow and small freezer unit. From other reviews, it appears as though the same issue persists with newer models. July 30, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Major design flaw Owned this refrigerator for a month and it's functioning well in the hot garage. One major criticism is that the freezer door will open when the other door is pushed shut. We have to make sure to close both doors at the same time. If the doors were heavier this would not be an issue. July 22, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works with issues. I guess our model would be the classic style, owned this chillerator top mount fridge with lower freezer since 2008. Chiller operates in the high desert garage environment very well, where temps reach over 100 degrees. You must monitor a few things on a weekly basis, first the fridge temperature, adjustments in accordance with ambient temps, next is the ice buildup and blockage of the drain behind the upper compartment back wall, which needs removal of perishables and manual defrosting. Any fix Whirlpool? May 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great frig! bought this a month ago because I had already purchased 3 small refrigerators for extra space in the garage and they went out. I had the a gladiator frig for 8 years in my old home and never had a problem with it. Sold it with the house and am so glad I purchased another one, I know I can trust this to work in both heat and cold! May 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 2nd new in a year & another disappointment This is my 2nd new garage refrigerator within a year; as the 1st Whirlpool kept leaking after multiple tech calls & replaced parts. It was so frustrating. The Gladiator was recommended by one of the techs that serviced the former. Well, I am very disappointed that this does NOT keep my ice cream frozen. The rest of the food in the freezer stays frozen, but the ice cream is very soft. I have to keep the ice cream in my upstairs unit. If I raise the temp to the highest setting, as recommended by the salesman; the ice cream becomes somewhat harder (but not frozen as it should be) & the higher temp causes my refrigerated milk to form ice crystals. If this problem is a fluke with my particular Gladiator, I would prefer the entire unit just be replaced, as I cannot bear to go through what I did with the 1st one. I guess they just don't make appliances like they used to. May 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A unique refrigerator for your garage There are some refrigerators that say they are " garage ready" usually this means they may have separate freezer vs. refrigerator section controls. This one is the real deal. Most refrigerators have operating issues once the external temperature drops below about 50 degrees. However the operating temperature range of the Chillerator is 0 to 115 degrees, if you have an uninsulated garage like I do you need that range. It has a reasonable energy rating and seems to be well insulated as it doesn't seem to run very much. Now the delivery was not smooth, and I'm not sure the installers put the casters on correctly, but it rolls and locks correctly. We'll see how things go after we have it for a while. I did not rate it a five for two reasons, first it is quite expensive, secondly when it arrived it wasn't working and was making quite a noise. I had a service contract and spoke to both Home Depot and the manufacturer, I found out that the servicer has to be specially certified to work on this unit because of the special heaters and such. Because of that it takes a few days to get anyone to schedule an appointment. So I opened it up and found the noise was the compressor plug hitting the cooling fan blade I plugged the compressor back in (with a click) and it's working fine now. I told both the Home Depot and the manufacturer about it. So in conclusion it's a unique appliance for a specific use in your garage. May 10, 2016
