Customer Questions & Answers

this paint, is is light enough but can be used a 1 coat over ceiling dry wall?

I recently purchased a behr product for ceilings and was also useable for texture ceilings. I could not even pure that paint out of the pale. I need easy applicable paint that I can just poor into my pan and roll right on. Drywall ceiling is already spackled and any and all touch up repairs applied.. Please tell me that this is a useable product. Thank you Poohbear

First, you're going to need a primer on any bare drywall/joint compound surfaces before applying any topcoat. Second, this paint is a poor choice if you're looking for a 'one-coat' solution. It is thin, off-white, and the dried finish sheen is not a true flat/matte sheen. Better off spending more for something with a higher proportion of solids in it and more consistent finish characteristics.

can this paint be mixed with joint compond to make heavy texture

Asked by: Rick
That sounds weird. My guess is that the viscosity of this paint or any other paint would interfere with your ability to adjust the thickness of the spray to get the texture you want. I'd spray texture first and then paint. Mixing the two also would waste paint, because you would be coloring the interior of the texture rather than just the surface.

Can I use this Glidden Ceiling paint with a Graco airless sprayer without thinning?

I'm going over a previously painted ceiling and I need to freshen it. It needs to be flat and the ceiling has a knock-down texture. Can one coat do it? Any othet tips?
Asked by: Anonymous
I would not recommend doing it because ceiling paint is thicker than regular paint so it will hold on the ceiling and not drip off, there for by thinning it would cause it to drip and make a mess and a bad looking job. I recommend using a 3/4 nap roller cover, one of good quality, and it should cover in one coat if the color your going over is white or a very light color.

2 gal. Bright White Flat Paint is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 31.

I'll reiterate the opinion of other reviewers here, and say that this is not good paint. Lap marks are unavoidable because it's impossible to maintain a wet edge, the dried sheen is NOT a matte sheen and it has some reflective properties that highlight every flaw, and the color is a grayish off-white instead of bright white. In short, this paint is the answer to the question: "How do you screw up something as simple as flat white paint?"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Coverage and Quality I had the Behr ceiling paint in my cart because it was much more visible in store. It wasn't until i walked around a bit more that I saw the Glidden paint for around $8 cheaper. So i looked at reviews of both and the Behr had a lot of bad reviews. Figured I'd give this a shot since it was significantly cheaper. My experience was great. The paint rolled on very easily and covered the heavily nicotined stained ceilings in one coat, no joke. I just moved into this house and i'd wager that on top of the nicotine, the ceilings haven't been repainted since the house was built (1986). The paint is a nice white color (not to dark or bright) and dried quickly and evenly. There are two key's to use this correctly. First, use a paddle mixer with your drill. You need to really mix the paint well and doing that with a mixing stick you get from the paint counter won't do it. (this is with all paint, not just ceiling paint). Second, make sure you are using the appropriate roller applicator. Unless you have a flat ceiling, you should not be using a 3/8" nap roller. I used a 3/4" nap roller and have just a slightly textured ceiling. If you have popcorn, you may need to go higher. You need the larger nap to ensure good coverage and a nice thick coverage. If you pair that correctly to your ceiling, you should be able to finish the job in 1 coat. I used two coats only because i had already poured the excess paint before i realized i didn't need it. For the price and quality, this is the only ceiling paint I'll buy. Like anything, use the right tools and do the right prep and you will have a good result. Using the wrong nap roller would be like trying to cut a steak with a non serated plastic knife, and then blaming the steak for being garbage, not the knife.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from If it will be white... I decided to try it instead of "usual Home-Depot" one. Unfortunately, I needed a white paint. This is labeled "bright white'. But when I began to put it over the old white ceiling, the paint reveals its greyish tone. I let it dry, tried again - still grey. I have even found and looked through MSDS, and this problem became clear. It has much less white pigment, titanium dioxide, as compare to real white paints. The shown range is also wide, and the "whiteness" can be lower by a factor from 2 to 4 than in white paints. Probably, the manufacture save about 50 cents per gallon, and put a crashed rock (of two or three kinds) in the paint instead of the white pigment. When the paint has dried in a tray, in a thick layer, its top was almost dark grey, with near-black particles. The paint is slightly more glossy, and, thus, it looks brighter when directly reflects light, but ugly in back-scattering, and the ceiling tone is not equal (titanium dioxide is the most powerful scatter, and this lacks it). On the positive side I have to mention a nice liquid texture of the paint. When used with a roller it is splashing much less and leaks not as easily as the usual HD brand, which also promises splash-resistance. And, another positive, I have returned these 2-gallons, and took a usual 1-gallon of Behr, so the ceiling is very white again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty much the same as everything else I used this to paint my living room and dining room ceiling. I was painting over a off white color with a few water stains. I primed the water stains with BIN and then painted the ceiling. This paint worked fine. The same as every other paint I've ever used. The color was a little on the grey side. Not a bright white. There was some splatter, but I challenge anyone to paint two ceilings and not get any splatter. That is unless you have plenty of time on your hands. That's why you should always use drop cloths. There were a couple of spots that needed a little touch up, but that's my fault. Overall, a good product at a very good price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grayish White Be aware that this paint will not match other white ceiling paints but it covers nicely and doesn’t splatter at all. I have used this paint throughout my whole house and I wouldn’t say that it’s better than the Behr ceiling paint but it’s cheaper and I prefer the grayish white color that it is. Use good rollers & primer you can cover you ceiling in one coat but it’s very difficult because it’s hard to see where you have painted. With that being said it will take you 2 coats and this paint really goes a long way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Good I was skeptical about buying this paint for the price, but to my surprise did a great job.I bought the paint to paint an apartment that i was going to rent out. I was painting over a light cream color ceiling. The first coat was more of a primer and the second coat did the job. i did a third coat just for my self. Would buy again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst ceiling paint I ever used. Worst ceiling paint I ever used. Too thin to cover. We have applied 3 coats and still looks bad. I purchased as 1 gallon, not the larger container shown on website and not the pink stuff.
