We had an area of brick repaired on our 1902 home and need to repaint the exterior to hide repaired area. The house is currently painted and overall the paint is in good condition. The paint currently on the house is also latex and is also white. Will we need a primer? What kind of prep. needs to be done before we paint?

This paint will work fine for your project. Preparation is most important with any painting project. Clean with soap and water or mixture of TSP and water first, rinse well. Scape or sand any peeling or exposed areas and prime repaired areas with good quality exterior primer such as Gripper or Zinsser 123. Don't paint in the sun as it will dry too quickly and wont flow out and trap solvents under the top paint layer. Spraying is quick but brush and roller give the best long lasting results. With your off-white color this paint will cover in 1 coat although for best durability 2 thin coats are recommended over 1 thick coat. Happy painting! Read Less

Hello, and thank you for your question. This is a great paint to use on the exterior of your home. We do recommend a primer to ensure color accuracy and absorption of the bricks. Also, to prep the surface, you will want to wash it down to clear away any dust or debris. Enjoy your painting project!

Answer:
Yes if only going over properly prepared wood surfaces. 2 coats required then. Exterior primers are always better to use when spot repairing rough areas as paint & primer comb. paints seem to compromise on the primer part. But for general paint over paint this paint is self priming over a clean prepared previously painted surface or non-porous wood.

Answer:
This the thinnest exterior paint I have used. The coverage is dismal, you would have to do 2 coats over a primer to make this look just ok even white on white. I had better coverage with Kilz than this slop.

Answer:
Hello Larry,
While this paint has excellent adhesion and durability, it is not a paint + primer in one. We recommend that a separate primer be used with this product (if needed). Please give us a call at 1-800-GLIDDEN or see the label for more instructions regarding what will need a primer or not.

Answer:
What type of interior surface? We usually do not recommend using Glidden Exterior paint for interior purposes because of the higher VOC levels in exterior paint.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Experience Ever Thank you Frank! A huge thank you to Frank in Paint for being so patience and helpful!! You are awesome! Glidden has been the only paint to ever do on our house and being 2nd generation we weren't going to go with anything else. Glidden coverage is terrific, cost is right on and the choices can't be beat! April 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ext flat is the worst product after three coats of exterior flat (about 3 days apart) the last coat was still streaking on 3 exterior benches. After 4 days drying, I masked the contrasting joints with blue tape for painting another color. The masking tape was on for 4 hours and when I went to remove it, the three coats came off on the tape. Truly the worst product I have experienced in the last 30 years May 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by worst paint in 40 years Glidden used to be my favorite paint but this is the thinnest paint ever. I am doing white on white touch up and this won't begin to cover. This is thinner than wal mart color place cheap paint. Do not buy this or you will be painting everything 2-3 times. Got Valspar to replace it and WOW what a difference. I will no longer buy Glidden. June 17, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Runny and thin This is a very thin product with not much pigment for coverage.save your money and get something better. Glidden says it is the same as wal mart color place and that is cheap paint. June 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Value on the market As I,ve been painting for 40+ years I have used many brands of paint. This Glidden ext. satin is one of the best I have ever used, and that includes those super high priced paints. I covers very well (one coat in white base colors), it flows out very good in even very warm temperatures and clings to brush and roller well. I've just finished painting the back portions of my house which are the most sun and rained on areas and am extremely happy with this paint. After reading some of the other reviews I believe one must've used a Base 2 mixing base for white or didn't shake or stir it before using. This paint hides very well when properly applied. My experience with some dark or saturated bright colors is they wont hide well with any brand. (pigments are what hide and in the clear (deepest bases) earth based pigments (oxides) are critical for hide). Glidden hasn't changed this exterior formula in over 10 years and it performs just as it had when it had a #1 CR rating a few years back. There are other excellent paints out there also but you'll pay the price for a paint with only a little higher rating. I've talked to many fellow contractors who've used this paint and are very satisfied. Save some money and use this high quality paint. Remember some colors just wont hide well in any brand. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy any other paint! This is the one! I bought this paint based on my CR research. As the previous poster said "CR doesn't disappoint"!!! I painted the exterior of my house several months ago and it looks great. The paint coverage was awesome and I particularly like the satin sheen. I've been compliments all around. I'm sold on Glidden paints!! And this year (2012) around Memorial day, HD was offering a $20.00 rebate on the 5 gal buckets which would be a net of $92! What a deal!! Don't buy any other exterior paint! This is the one! And CR just updated their paint reviews in the June 2012 issue and this paint continues to hold the "Best Buy" endorsement. July 7, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great paint for any project I flip one or two homes every year and I always use Glidden paint for whatever project I am painting. It covers well and always looks great after drying. I have used both interior and exterior and have found they out perform all the other major brands. The Glidden Duo eggshell finish is great for interior walls, like the living room, bedrooms, and hallways. The Glidden Duo semi-gloss is great for the kitchens and bathrooms, The Gliddon premium works well as long as you use a primer first. The Gliddon exterior paint is great it covers well and holds up to extreme weather changes. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] July 17, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Difficult to work with I bought this paint for paneled steel entry doors. I used a brush and found that it was very difficult to spread evenly without leaving brush and lap marks, no self leveling of the paint at all. It seemed to dry as I was applying it (I painted the doors indoors @ 70 degrees laid flat on sawhorses). After it completely dried, it looked more like flat paint rather than satin, not a hint of sheen at all. I wouldn't recommend this for doors or anything with any detail on it because it was just to hard to put the paint on evenly. The only thing I can say good about it is that it cleans up easily with soap and water. October 26, 2011
