Answer:
If you are painting over new drywall this stuff is at good as it gets. You will never have to paint the inside of the garage again. If not concerned about the final finish there might be less expensive alternative though.

Answer:
I use this product any time I am painting fresh wood or painting over a darker color. Prior to painting my kitchen cabinets from brown (stained wood) to white, I used Gripper, and the cabinets look as good today as the day I painted them. I also used Gripper on my side porch posts....again....still looks great.
I would strongly suggest that you use Gripper in your garage. Great product.

Answer:
No not really any more than any other water based paint. Maybe just very slightly possibly due to a much thicker viscosity.

would gripper work on vinyl wall paper?

My paint scrapes off the wall paper when I paint it. Someone told me about gripper. They used it on wood that was varnished and said the paint stayed on when they used the gripper first. Thank you,

Answer:
After doing both indoor and outdoor painting over the years, we wouldn't use anything other than Gripper. Go ahead and use it on wallpaper. As long as the paper is firmly glued on, Gripper will seal and make a fine base coat.

Answer:
The Glidden Gripper will perform better than a regular paint, but a straight acrylic primer would do the best job. Please reach out to a store associate and ask about the special order program for Glidden Stain Jammer 1010-1200. This will offer you the best adhesion.

Answer:
Yes that'll probably work. Make sure to clean the surface thoroughly FIRST maybe with something neutral that will remove grime, grease and dirt and leaves behind minimal or no residue. Let dry thoroughly at least several hours. Then apply at least 2 coats of gripper with complete drying time between each layer. Then paint away. Good luck!

Answer:
That is something you would have to discuss with your local EHS person. We are not in a position to recommend mask’s. The other option would be for you to contact the mask company and get a recommendation.

Probably nothing special other than what you would use for any other paint. It does not have much odor at all.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 82 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best primer on the market! I was renovating a 1964 farm house with dark wood paneling. I needed to paint the paneling because ripping it down & putting up drywall was too expensive. I tried so many different primers & I can honestly say that Glidden Gripper was the very best. It took 4 to 5 coats of other primers to cover the dark paneling but I was able to get the job done with 1 good coat of glidden gripper with a light second coat in the darker seams. It filled in the cracks beautifully, saved me days of labor & a lot of money. The walls were so smooth that you can't even tell its paneling. Gripper will always be my first choice in primers!! Thank you for an amazing product!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] September 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good I used this primer last night. I'm painting an old stained and lacquered armoire and I didn't want to have to sand before priming. The can does say to sand and prep properly but I previously tested on a spot and it held great. I did make sure the surface was clean and free from dust and oil. I was using an airless sprayer so I thinned this with water. This stuff is very very thick... It's a little tricky to get the consistency right. There are no thinning guidelines on the can so I was just winging it. It did cover really well and it turned out very nice. June 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I was confident that my purchase of Glidden would leave me very satisfied with the painting result. I have to say the paint delivered as promised and as I expected from Glidden. This is a time tested product and company. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] September 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Versatile primer with excellent adhesion. We have used Gripper for many years. Coverage is excellent and it will stick to most anything. Highly recommended if changing from a previous oil based finish to an acrylic; typical condition is using an acrylic semi-gloss over existing oil based paint on interior trim and doors. Have been called many times to fix this problem, because the new acrylic can be peeled off with just your finger nails. One of the few primers meant for "hot Stucco" surfaces. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent and Oustanding Primer I have used many primer paints over the years. The Glidden Gripper indoor/outdoor primer is absolutely a great primer. Application is a dream, the consistency is perfect in that there is hardly any dripping or splatter when applying. Most applications only need one coat unless you have a wife like mine who always demands the second coat! Highly recommend this product. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dark purple dining room with green trim Yes, dark purple dining room, with green trim in 30 year old house. Was not sure how many coats it was going to take before painting it bungalow beige. It only took two coats to turn this hideous room into a beautiful dining room. Great coverage [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] September 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great exterior primer Excellent primer for exterior wood trim. Great for priming interior walls that have been skimmed with joint compound , have a lot of patches, or surfaces that need a bonding primer. Good adhesion over most surfaces.
