I'M DRYWALLING MY GARAGE. THE SPEC'S SAY'S IT TINTABLE CAN I USE THIS FOR PAINT COLOR AS WELL.

Asked by: Anonymous
when i do a house which i need a primer i always tint mine at least one shade lighter than the finish color because it really helps in spotting flaws in the sheetrock that can be fixed before the final color . and makes for a great finish . speaking for myself it works great like this

PVA drywall primer to seal partical board

can I use this product to seal partical board subfloor? It wlll then have floor leveling compound in places then vapor barrier then finish flooring. Can I dilute with water for better penetration? Thanks sam
Asked by: Anonymous
Sam I think I would use 123 for this project. This product seams to be good light primer. For your app I think sealing it with 123 would keep the moisture out better

Grayer than the primer I had been using, but covers adequately and gets the job done. I suspect this product has zinc oxide pigment while the other brand has the more expensive titanium dioxide, but I didn't look up the MSDS to see. The difference isn't enough to show through the top coat when used side by side. Less opacity could be a detriment when priming over old paint or wallpaper, but on new drywall it's fine.

Good coverage with no thinning. 5 gallons was just enough for 540 square foot room walls and ceiling. If I rolled it I could have got more coverage. it comes a little thinner than what I have used in the past and might require more coats when rolling.

The paint pro at Home Depot tried to talk me into a premium product that was almost twice the price as this, but after reading these reviews, I went with this Glidden PVA. I had a large area of new drywall to cover and did not want to roll or brush, so I bought a couple bottles of Floetrol to thin it out and applied with a siphon air sprayer - the results were wonderful! IMPORTANT: This applies semi-transparent with a slight orange peel texture. But it self-levels and turns a matte white as it dries. Apply only until the surface is wet otherwise you'll get runs. The mud and drywall will be seen through the wet PVA until it dries. (Glidden may want to clarify this in the instructions on the bucket so customers don't over apply.) There were a few blemishes in the drywall that I did see when mudding. Also a few run marks. After fixing and sanding, I sprayed again and it blended in fine with the existing coat. Other than afew touch-ups, I did not need a second coat. Clean-up was a simple as warm soapy water. Great product!!

My understanding is this is pretty much the only stuff you can use for never before painted drywall. Plus, it is cheaper than regular primer.
