This is an exterior door with a polyurethane finish about 35 yrs old. If I need to prime first, what primer do you recommend?

I did with just a spray can of killz but to be honest you can probably skip that and still have super results it covers very nicely.

This product sounds great, but I keep reading about it having a strong odor. Is this just during the painting and drying period? Does the smell go away? I want to use it on a desk which will be in the house.

You need to make sure you stir it well before application. Drips are very minimal because of this. However, some issues arise with the application. I used this product to repaint my front door. I prepped it according to the instructions from Glidden. You need to ensure that completely sand out all imperfections because this paint will make even minor imperfections stand out. You will also need to ensure that you only use very thin coats spaced at least 24-48 hours apart. I tried to paint my door using only 2 coats spaced at 12 hours at 85 degrees. It ended up leaving some pretty horrendous brush marks on the door that will probably result in the entire process needing to be done again. I highly suggest that you don't rush your project if you're going to use this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best product ever I have used this for interior doors, cabinets, built-ins and trim. It's sort of an odd consistency going on, a little like cottage cheese, but once it dries, the surface is unbelievably smooth and free of streaks. This stuff doesn't drip - fantastic for vertical surfaces and even overhead, and I tend to be a pretty messy painter. This paint makes me look like a pro. I have used it ever since it came out, and all my projects have held up well. I went to get some more today at my local Home Depot, but they told me they had stopped carrying it, because it did not sell well. I hope I can find it at another store, or online.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice coverage/color tone, strong odor I painted my trims and moldings with this paint, it covered the wood nicely, it is super shiny( ideal for my colonial style home). The paint odor is very, very strong. We had headaches and problem sleeping due to the odor. The paint is very thick and doesn't slide to easily Although it took awhile to finish the project, I am very happy with the final results

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome paint People... This is an oil based paint. IT WILL SMELL as it dries. Once it dries, it will form the most smooth, glossy, and hard surface ever. Imagine having a gaggle of kids splatter mud, food, whatever and you just wipe it off with soap and water just like a countertop and it looks new. Well, that's what this stuff does. I've done all the trim in my house with this and love it. Yes it's not cheap. Yes you will need to ventilate your house while it dries. Afterwards however, you will have a high grade trim paint that lasts a long time and can stand up to heavy use. This isn't water color latex paint that washes off and scratches. This is an oil paint that will smell while it dries and you actual need to use mineral spirits to clean up versus water like latex paints. The end result is awesome and is worth the work. Also, stated renovating a 1939 house 5 years ago which is when I first started using this paint. It's held up awesome and I continue to use it as I renovate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turned a pinkish hue The glidden BRIGHT WHITE door and trim paint turned a terrible pinkish hue after a few days that was very notice able, and not to mention brushstrokes marks and uneven color in areas areas will have to sand primer and repaint doors . Very dissatisfied with the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tar This stuff looked like tar when we opened it. Followed all directions, but unfortunately our doors look horrible. They are streaked and apparently it had bubbles in it. Wish I could strip and repaint with a different product. Would definitely NOT recommend to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Product This product stands out when used correctly. I had a slight learning curve with this paint. Since I have successfully sprayed, brushed, rolled you name it. Worth every penny.
