This is an exterior door with a polyurethane finish about 35 yrs old. If I need to prime first, what primer do you recommend?

Answer:
I personally would use a light grit sand, and sand the door first, that should give you better adhesion. I really like this paint, it is gel like in its consistency and really stays where you put it and has a nice shine to it. I am buying more, although in white, for my front door and garage door, I like it that well!!!

Answer:
I would think you could just lightly sand it, and it will cover. It sticks really well.

Answer:
Hello Davar!
There is no need to use a primer before applying this paint. If the surface is shiny, you will want to sand it slightly so that the paint has something to grip on to.

It covers wood well and would look great; however it took 7 to 14 days for it to dry completely.

In short, yes you can use this on a kitchen table top...but should you use it..no.
Reason why is that while it can be safe, there are much better products out there to paint your table top.

In fact, I'd recommend this or any product that states on the packaging that it is rated for countertops. Anything else may not work, leaving you with more refinishing and work to do.

Answer:
it is pretty high shine, but I don't think it will give you a lacquer look, more like a deep black polished look. I love the paint!! It is a gel like consistency, so I think if you do buy it buy more than less cause it seems to go more quickly.

Hi there JP,
The Glidden Trim & Door Oil Gel-Flow Paint will work great for any wood, metal, composite or vinyl surface. The Gel-Flow technology it's built with makes it great for eliminating brush-strokes and leaving you with a sleek, glossy finish.
Bear in mind, this is an Oil-based paint so it will require extra ventilation and the use of mineral spirits as a cleaning agent for your brushes. Read More

The Behr High gloss paint will work as well, but that will be a water-based paint so it's a different formula all together and I would suggest the use of an oil-based primer before application. Read Less

Can this be used over laminate and cultured marble countertops?

I know that I will have to sand and to prep with some type of primer (Zinnser or Kilz etc). Just wondering if this can be used to give that piano gloss in black that I am looking for in countertops. The laminate countertops are still in good condition; the cultured marble has a few scratches and stains.

Answer:
HI JPN80,
This paint while exterior grade is not formulated for use on a counter top.
The oil in this paint may effect any food items placed on the counter.
In addition it is not durable enough for a counter top.
It will scratch and chip easily.
I would not recommend this application.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Smells really bad Primed my drawer chest and then painted it in glossy black. The paint is somewhat weird, its like a thick gel that I mixed pretty well. In clumps in paint tray. Doesnt look like typical paint consistency. Once i painted it i thought ok, it looks ok. But oh my god, it smells so bad. Had it in my garage for 2 weeks with the garage door open during the day and it still smells. Should have just gotten regular black paint. Very disappointed for $20 a quart. May 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Glidden Black Gel-Flow Paint I LOVE this gel-flow oil paint. It transformed the steel front door to appear new again. The paint is thick and creamy so all those tiny scratches and imperfections are completely covered up. It's description should be "the paint for ultimate coverage". I used a 2-inch brush with no worries of leaving brush strokes. The creamy gel-flow paint heals itself if the painter uses too much of a heavy hand while brushing. You could never achieve this with regular water based paint. Also, because of the gorgeous shiny black finish, my front door stands out now instead of fading into the background like it did before it was painted. December 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Versatile I like this because it can be used for exterior or interior. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent coverage Used this paint to do the trim around my side entry door. It covered perfectly and left a great even finish. I will use the product again when I re-trim the front door. The paint held on to the brush well and I had no drips on the concrete. Excellent product that I highly recommend. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Paint I painted our front exterior entrance door that was in rough shape with a little scraping and sanding it was still not so good but the Glidden Door and Trim Paint made it like new and smooth as glass. Unlike other brands Glidden has a thick gel that filled in the joint and laid out smooth. Easy to clean up and drying time was reasonably fast. Saved me from replacing the door it also works great on our out door furniture. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by As advertised Had to cover some chew marks on a couple of kitchen chairs before guests arrived. January 5, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mixed reviews I bought the high-gloss red and the rich navy. The red color was fine, and I painted five exterior doors with the red, but the rich navy started to peel after about two years. I contacted Glidden and was told that they are no longer making rich navy. Consequently, I have to paint 18 shutters with some other color, which is expensive and inconvenient. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Leaves wood with exrtra shine just a small word of advice would be to prep the area you are painting real good so that this paint soaks in also it took more than 1 coat of paint for it to really take onto wood. if you want shiny finish this is what you want to get makes wood really stand out.
