I have something similar in the US. My friend in Europe would like the same one. I know the lightbulbs need to be 220V and purchased locally but is the track lighting able to be installed "as is"?

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love this track lighting kit! I hope this review can be useful to the next shopper that isn't sure which light set is really good, so that's why I'm writing this review. I shop A LOT online. I depend on honest reviews from people who know what they are talking about when reviewing a product and have more to say than “great” or “can’t wait to give to my uncle for his birthday” which does nothing to help me. I consider myself incredibly handy around the house when it comes to repairs or even fabrication to get the job done. I'm not a tradesman, nor do I have a roll around tool chest in my garage. I'm just a typical guy with average tools who isn't intimidated to fix or improve something. Let me start by saying I'm a serious comparison shopper. I went in person to the two big box home improvement stores to get an idea of what's out there for track lighting. I already have a set that came installed in the house when we bought it and it is a good set using incandescent bulbs and it's been working fine for the last 19 years. So I wanted another set similar to it. I didn't like what I saw in the stores. All the sets looked tiny, underpowered, flimsy and cheap. Track lighting these days seems geared to LEDs or tiny halogen sets. I wanted a big bulb that threw A LOT of light. I have a 14' wall that I want to light up so I wanted something big. I scoured a certain popular website that sells almost everything in the world and starts with an A. I narrowed it down to one or two sets that really stood out and proceeded to read all the reviews (good and bad). I then scoured the two big box home improvement stores websites. Sadly you don't see many reviews on the home improvement sites. But I really liked the look of this set, the ability to add more sections to the track, and the price point. I could have easily just gone with the set from the A site but this set had a higher maximum wattage rating. I purchased two sets of these and also purchased the special connector that lets you link multiple tracks together. I wound up having to drill my own holes in the tracks. I refused to use the toggle bolts it came with. Those things leave nasty holes when you remove them if you should decide to do something different later. Fortunately on my vaulted ceiling there were two joists that crossed each track that allowed me to firmly anchor this to the ceiling. Once I'd finished and turned them they work immediately. They look great. The cans can point straight down or go almost 95 degrees up. All the hardware they came with was in perfect condition. The instructions are pretty decent but I really didn't need them as I'd just removed the ceiling fan so I knew what all the wiring was for and where it went. I’m glad I saved all the hardware from the ceiling fan as I needed a couple especially long bolts to attach the X brace from this lighting kit to the ceiling. I like the look and feel of everything. This doesn’t look tiny, it’s certainly not underpowered with (6) 75w bulbs in it, and everything is good quality at a fair price. I thought I'd comment on two reviews on this product: One reviewer noted the black trim rings in the light cans can be jostled loose. What? I would ask them if they are in the habit of standing on a ladder and bumping their body into the lights to get the trim rings to come loose. This is not an issue. The trim rings all have raised tabs that help secure them inside the can. They aren't going anywhere. Once you’e installed your lights on the ceiling don’t bump into them with your body and nothing will come loose. Another reviewer mentioned many of the cans didn't work until after repeated attempts (at something). I'm guessing they didn't attach the electrical connectors correctly. The instructions don't mention this either but the track has 2 copper conductive strips on one side and 1 strip on the other. When installing the cans you must make sure the two connectors on the can attachment go into the correct side of the strip. I don’t even know if it’s possible to attach this connector in the wrong direction but I’m sure someone can figure out how. Just match the two connectors up to the two strips and you’ll be fine. If I had to come up with a nit pick I'd say I wish that the decorative cover meant to hide the junction box in your ceiling and all the wiring was bigger/deeper. I decided to not place the hot wires back into the junction box (this would mean shoving them under the x brace. I did this from a maintenance perspective. Let's say the power connector failed (I have a spare as I purchased two sets) and I had to swap it out. It would require me to uninstall the tracks to gain access to the junction box. There was enough room to cram all these wires between the decorative cover and the track but the cover hangs down 1/4 to a 1/2 inch. You really can tell as there's a can on either side of it and who looks up at a vaulted ceiling anyway? December 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Track Lighting looks Awesome! We LOVE our new lighting. We built a new timberframe (post and beam) home and needed something that would look nice in the new kitchen. The "cans" are bigger than we thought they would be but they look awesome. We bought the LED light buls and when I switch the lights on, the kitchen is a beautiful bright place to cook in. We would buy these again, no doubt. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Track Lighting Easy for my friend to install and insert lighting cans. June 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Retro value These ended up looking minimalist and chic in a tight space. The only gripe is that the little black plastic cuffs/rings inside each shade can be jostled loose, creating an uneven, shoddy effect. Once fixed, it's fine and they aren't really getting contact to jostle them, so this shouldn't be an ongoing problem. Since this is not a high-dollar item, I figure flaws like that are part of the deal. Good value, I would say. November 21, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This product is easy to install This track light is exactly what I was looking for. It is a replacement for another similar light. I got it for my kitchen which is dark & this light really brightens it up! May 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good value I had the contractor install the track so I can't say for sure but it seems they were easy to install. The only nit is getting the bulbs (PAR) screwed in was a little tricky and I thought that a number of the cannisters didnt work until after repeated attempts the bulbs turned on. Overall the lights look great in my living room and are easy to pop onto and off the track. May 22, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value for track lights Nice quality and finish. Easy to install and position. Be sure to purchase spot light bulbs and not flood light bulbs. November 15, 2011
