What is the recommended fastener spacing (screws or nails). Can this product be installed either horizontal or vertical on an exterior garage wall?

Asked by: Bill
For 16" o.c. wood framing, nails shall be spaced not more than 8" o.c. and screws not more than 16" o.c. if the wall is not fire rated. The board can be installed horizontally or vertically. If the wall is fire rated, then the fastener spacing and board orientation must comply with an assembly tested for fire-resistance.

Will this board give1 hour rated fire protections as requested by the my Zoning Board?

Asked by: donny
Individual components of a wall assembly do not have a fire-rating. A one-hour fire rating can be achieved if XP Fire-Shield is installed on both sides of wood or metal stud framing. If this is an exterior wall, there are numerous ways of achieving the one-hour rating. Please call 800-NATIONAL for assistance in determining the rating of your wall assembly.
