Product Overview

Grace Ice & Water Shield HT fully-adhered, smooth surface roofing underlayment is specifically designed for high temperature applications such as metal roof assemblies. It delivers all the advantages of Grace Ice & Water Shield roofing underlayment with thermal stability metal roofs require. Not all high temperature roofing underlayments are the same. Grace Ice & Water Shield HT is an excellent high temperature ice and water barrier that follows in the footsteps of the original Ice & Water Shield, but is specially formulated to meet the higher service temperatures that are inherent to metal roofing systems. Grace Ice & Water Shield HT is formulated with a proprietary adhesive with temperature resistance of up to 260°F. The membrane forms a watertight bond to the roof deck, and seals around fasteners to around the nail of the primary roof covering and thus maintains its waterproof integrity on the roof deck. It also creates a strong bond to the roof deck. Grace Ice & Water Shield HT delivers optimal balance of adhesion and thermal stability for superior performance under the most demanding conditions.

  • Temperature resistance up to 260° F: Provides premium waterproofing for metal roofs
  • 120 day exposure: Delivers consistent performance over long, unpredictable construction cycles
  • Strong adhesion to the roof deck: Helps ensure a watertight seal, protecting roofs from harsh weather conditions
  • High quality seal around roofing nails: Delivers strong roof leak protection; providing peace of mind against costly call backs
  • Forms superior laps: Provides watertight installation with no special treatment of the laps
  • Dual barrier protection - rubberized asphalt is combined with polymeric film to form two waterproofing barriers providing maximum protection
  • Delivers optimum balance of adhesion and thermal stability for superior performance under the most demanding conditions

The instructions say to coat it after 30-120 days. But with what? Reflective coating that you use on rubber or tin roofs? Thanks~

I'd like to cover it as the instructions said. If you read it, it's on a epdm roof that's already been down awhile. It say's to coat it, depending on who you ask, when. Lowe's says 30 days, as does Grace. H-D says 120 days? The roof is fairly flat & there is NO way to cover it with shingles, etc.

Answer:
Grace Ice & Water Shield HT is designed to allow for extended exposure to sunlight (UV). Within 120 days of application, the final roof covering material (shingles, metal, or mechanically attached tiles) must be installed. Grace Ice & Water Shield HT is not designed for use when the final roof covering is a liquid applied roof coating materials.

I would not attempt to do any bigger piece than 3' long without an extra pair of hands because once it touches ANYTHING, it sticks! The same goes for ANY breeze....VERY sticky.

I wanted to unroll it from the box, I could not. 1/2 of the roll did not have the paper backing over the glue and the underlayment was glued to itself, had to throw it out.

Ice & Water Shield HT 36 in. x 75 ft. (225 sq. ft.) Roll Roofing Underlayment in Black is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job I liked the product, but was not impressed with the paper backing or the string strip to cut the paper in half. The string kept breaking and the paper would not come all of the way off, so it had to be removed in little pieces. I have heard that other similar products have a backing that comes off easier.

I cut it into 4 foot sections on the edges as this is the hardest areas to work. Best underlayment I have used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water barrier with strong adhesion I bought enough of this for a double layer but soon realized that one would have been more than enough. There is no way water will penetrate this. Someone commented that this does not stick well, but I found it to stick to nearly everything. The only thing it doesn't seem to stick well to is damp wood. Particularly treated wood that is new and still damp. Dry/clean sheathing will have no problem grabbing onto this. The instructions say to nail it down for sloped roofs, but check this out. I had to repair a 8 foot vertical wall along the side of the chimney that had severe water damage. After the repair, I covered the section with this and it stuck like crazy... to everything. I didn't even nail it to the 8' vertical wall and it stuck. The only nails came from the vinyl siding that I later covered the wall with a week later. The only down side I can come up with it that it is expensive. If I had known how good this was, I would have only bought enough for one layer and saved some money. You get what you pay for and this is well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A dry suit for your roof that will last forever imo We put the Grace HT on our old cabin in the U.P of Michigan. After removing the old original roll roofing. We applied the Grace HT to the entire roof, which has many dormers and valleys. Went on as expected as we had done our research prior. The roof deck is very old rough pine various width boards. Those old boards will never see the light of day again. The metal roofing was installed and I am confident that if a leak should occur in the metal, the Grace will not let it penetrate. And the inside of the cabin should stay much cooler in summers. Darn good stuff imo........

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Although this stuff is an little tricky to put down, I can't imagine a roof leaking after applying. I used it to seal my camper tip out prior to putting my rubber roof back down after repair water damage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Temp Ice & Water Shield.: Amazing, great barrier membrane Excellent product!. But very expensive (twice the price of competing brands). The high temperature (HT) is for use under metal roofing. Amazingly effective product - super water barrier. Very tricky to install until you figure it out. It's like 3 foot wide waterproof duct tape. No mistakes allowed. It sticks tightly to plywood or OSB. It also sticks well to itself - which is good it makes the seams tight. However, if you accidentally touch two adhesive surfaces together, it's permanent - you won't get them apart. Recommended for low slope roofs or roof trouble-spots like valleys or penetrations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Timely Delivery This is the best underlayment I have ever used. It handled well even in the cool weather this week. Will use it again. Provides the best of protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality. This product really does the job. It is very tough and durable, sticks like crazy, and best of all, appears to be 100% waterproof. My amateur roofers seemed to have no problem applying it either. I expect this to last for many years. Well worth the money.
