Looking at Grape Solar kit for about$400. I need to put my panel about 40 - 50 feet from my deep cycle battery. If the cord is not long enough is there some kind of extension I can order?

Answer:
about 30". Get two of the 15" cables for most installs, they're weather proof, but the charge controller is not. They're a little difficult to unclip because of that, but perfect for our off-grid RVing purposes.

There are two options. You can buy two extensions of that length to connect the panels to the charge controller. The kit connections are only about 6 inches. You could also buy a longer run of wires from the controller to the battery. The kit has 2 foot wires for this. I chose to extend between the panels and the charge controller. Answer:
Hi Pam,
Thank you for your interest in Grape Solar kits.
The GS-100-KIt has a 35" lead on the back of the panel plus a 6" conversion cable to transition from the MC4 connector on the panel leads to a bare end. To run to your charge controller you will need to splice some 10-Gauge outdoor wire to the bare leads on the conversion cable.

Answer:
These panels only put out around 18 volts individually, but they can be put into a series string of two to produce around 36 volts, which is ideal for charging 24 volt battery banks. Please contact Grape Solar Technical Support with any further questions.

My solar panels will be at least 75 ft -100 ft from the rest of my system.I'll have to put the panels on a pole mount because of the wildlife in the area.Bears is only one problem.I'll have more than 4 all together and they will be in a field and get a lot of southern exposure from that spot.It will be a very nice cabin and I'll be living there full time.(i'm divorced) and no more nagging and it will be so quite I just can't wait............David

Answer:
I normally recommend against cable runs that long because of line losses, but sometimes you don’t have any choice. With a single panel and 10AWG copper wire you get 6% line losses. With four panels and 6AWG wire you get about 12% losses. Your system will still work, but you should try to shorten that length.

Answer:
There is always some drop in voltage as wiring length increases; it's hard to say if it would be significant in your application. I suggest calling Grape Solar directly (in Oregon, so they're Pacific Time); I called them twice during my installation and they were very helpful.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good RV Starter Kit Purchased this kit to put on my 5th Wheel Trailer. With a few extras (Longer Wires, DC Breakers, Battery Cable & Connections) I was able to mount this to the roof and feed down to my duel AGM Deep Cycle Batteries. While dry camping along the coast for a week we were in direct sun most of the afternoon after the marine layer burned off. This single panel gave us a Full Charge every day! The only reason I had to run the generator was to Charge the Wife's phone and the grandkids games. Camping in the Forest a month later was a bit more of a challange with shade most of the day but the Panel and Controller worked Perfectly. I'm going to install another panel and an Inverter (converter? Can never get those straight!) by Spring. Very Happy with this product and the price was right. Only drawback is Home Depot doesn't carry any parts or accessories in store. Everything has to be ordered on line. Do your homework so you have everything you need before you get started. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Solar Panel Meets and exceeds my expections. My only complaint is that Home Depot doesn't offer excess ores such as mounting bracket for off site setup and a padded case to protect the solar panel during transport. June 30, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Purchase of 100 Watt Solar Panel Kit The solar panel kit included everything needed to install a small solar installation. I am using it on the roof of a motorhome, though I have not had the opportunity yet to place it in service. I thought it was a very good value for the money. The only other items that would have been nice are two or three varieties of mounting feet. February 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Part of a larger purchase. Exactly what I was looking for. The description needs to be updated to include what else you will need if you decide to add the additional three panels which I did. It would also be nice if they were available through Home Depot. I had to go to Amazon to get the MC4 connectors to put it all together. Now that it is installed it is performing perfectly. It can be put together at less expense by ordering elsewhere, but I preferred to have a known supplier. July 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy set up for Off-the-Grid RV Kit arrived on time, included instructions were complete and when I called Grape Solar with related questions they were well answered. Not been in the field yet, but in the driveway it brought two large deep-cycle batteries up to charge real fast. So easy I might add an additional panel and an inverter! July 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value on Solar Pannel This panel kit delivers on power, but is not a complete install kit ,one needs to read all the information that comes with it. That being said it does work very well and is built strong enough to give years of service. August 9, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by For your consideration... Do not waste your money on kits with Sunforce controllers. They are indeed full featured charge controllers but are considerably less reliable than controllers from other manufacturers including Xantrex, Morningstar, etc. Also, an overall higher quality, higher output system can be built from individual components cheaper.
