Will a 15 amp dedicated ac breaker with 10 guage wiring be sufficient for ac? 15 amp breaker and 10 gauge wiring on the DC side also?

Asked by: Lance
Yes, for both the AC and DC wiring questions. The DC wiring should be limited to 20 feet with that gauge wire.

How much current it draws from 12V DC? How much current it draws 110V AC?

I saw in one answer that it draws 9A, but not sure it is in DC or AC.
Asked by: AClemson
9 amps is the peak draw, which is momentary. Under normal use, these draw 4-5 amps when the compressor is on. They typically draw around 500 watt-hours per day when in use, assuming a standard duty cycle.

Customer Reviews

Glacier 5 cu. ft. Mini Refrigerator in Brushed Gray with DC/AC Adapters is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased to use on our boat. Replaced my marine refrigerator on our 32' trawler. Been in use one full season and is much better the the frig it replaced. Have two golf cart batteries, charged by shore charger, the main engine, and the generator. Can go 24hours at anchor with no charging without exhausting batteries. Holds temp well, gets real cold even without setting low. Makes ice fast. Basically this is a great unit! Had to reverse door (easy to do) installed a simple drop pin lock in original hinge position to keep box closed in rough seas. Happy Solar Grape owner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GLACIER 5 CU. FT. MINI REFRIGERATOR I have owned this a little under 1 day. after looking everywhere for reviews I could only find a handful but they were all good so I decided to do one myself. This was purchased for a off grid cabin that is powered by 2-300 watt solar panels and 5 122ah deep cycle batteries. I have not tested it at the cabin yet. the fridge arrived in good condition double boxed. I un boxed it and opened it up, it is plenty big enough for several days worth of food. I believe the size will be perfect for what I need. I plugged the unit in with the attached AC cord and allowed it to cool for about a half an hour and the freezer was already below freezing. a few minuets later the fridge was below 40 degrees. within an hour I was turning it down, I have it set at 2 out of 7 and its running about 38-40 degrees. I put a case of pre cooled 12oz cans in and connected 1 12 volt 122ah battery that tested at 12.5 volt. it has been running off of this single battery for approximately 5 hours and still test 12.4-12.5 volt. So far i am very pleased with this purchase and would purchase another unit. I will update after I have used it a little.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Off Grid Compatible! So far,(3 wks) this is a very sweet piece of equipment.Unit runs at 5 amps at 12 volts, freezes fast, at setting on 2.5 of 7, with 7 being the coldest. Definitely have to shorten the thin gauge cord, runs better, else it will cut out do to voltage drop if you have long run like ours, and at 12/volts. Our circuit is approximately 100 ft round trip (50') one way of awg 8 copper. Now with cord wired direct (12" whip left on) it hasn't cut out do to vdrop. Nice unit so far.voltage range should take equalization v levels, since cut out is higher generally. We have shut off overnight at 78 f ambient and found meat still frozen in the morning. (YMMV). A little noisy, really can't complain. Freezer will fit 4lb chicken, 2 lb fish, quart ice cream and cubes. Would consider 2nd in future to run as freezer only. Had free piston stirling previously, but lousy C.O.P. whereas standard compressor like this one is 2 or 3. So free watts there.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flimsy Construction This refrigerator is noisier than a standard residential refrigerator. The compressor is noticeably loud when it starts and after about 3 minutes of running, it develops an even louder thrumming beat felt and heard throughout the room. In addition, the 92mm equipment cooling fan in the rear compartment is not quiet and adds to the noise. The refrigerator has very flimsy construction. The base is a thin sheet of steel and the feet bolted through the base deform it when sitting normally on the floor. Once out of the shipping carton, the refrigerator has to be handled extremely carefully to avoid damage. The one I received was damaged in shipping, in part due to the flimsy construction. The base was bent in the rear compartment and bending it back did not work because the refrigerator is too heavy for the light sheet of steel used. The base in the front was bent so badly the door came off the hinges and had to be remounted with shims to get it straight. The freezer compartment is not separately adjustable and is 15 degrees F colder than the fresh compartment. In a week-long test, the refrigerator used 0.5KWh per day while plugged into AC, with an ambient temperature of 68 degrees F, a fresh compartment temperature of 37 degrees F, and a freezer compartment temperature of 22 degrees F. During the test week, it was opened 2-3 times per day for a temperature check. When running on AC, it draws an average of 75 watts running and it draws 7 watts even when not running. The heat exchangers are located on the sides of the refrigerator. Because of this, the owner’s manual indicates 6 inches of clearance is required for both sides and for the back. This limits installation location since the installed size is MUCH larger than the physical size. There is no door handle, no interior light, and the bottom door shelf has no bracket to retain items. It is not Energy Star certified.
