Customer Questions & Answers

Will this work for a bug zapper so i dont have to run a cord around my house?

Asked by: Coppertopsc
No, this panel has an output that is a 5-volt DC USB outlet. You would need something like our GS-200-KIT, at a minimum, to run any devices that use AC power.

is the end that charges a item a s standard USB while the end in the panel a micro usb ?
Asked by: Rob
The other way around - the output of the panel is standard USB, the connection to the item is the micro USB. You can use an adapter to switch this around if necessary.

is it my battery pack or my panel?

Bought this set up to charge a back up battery that I use with my phone. My battery requires a 5v 1amp source to charge it and when plugged into computer or charge adapter, the lights flash a cycle to indicate it is charging. When I plug in the panel, the battery lights cycle only once to indicate it is charging then goes to a single light flashing. I have tried this in various sun intensities and get the same result, after many hours the battery has not charge. I see your battery pack requires the same voltage/amps, shouldn't my battery charge as well?
Asked by: Dan
While Grape Solar chargers work with most USB batteries, we cannot guarantee compatibility with battery types that are not sold by Grape Solar.

Do you have to use the built in cord or can you use something other than Micro USB

something else like USB Type-C
Asked by: Shubamz
This panel is only compatible with standard USB (output) and micro USB (charging input).

The best I could get is 4.25V at .75A which is 3.1875W. That is only 42.5% the rated output. According to a charge doctor I got 560mAh charge when in the sun for one hour. I have a 10w panel which I can get 8w out of which is 80% the rated output. I'll be returning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, seems rugged I have used this to charge my Nexus S phone and Nexus 7 tablet. Both devices went to AC charging mode when plugged into the solar panel. AC charging is much faster than “USB” charging. They also charge if the panel is outside but not in direct sunlight, for example in the shade of our outdoor umbrella. It plugs directly into the Micro-B plug of the tablet or phone. The panel is mounted in a rugged nylon cover which also has 4 D rings on the corners so that the panel can be strapped or tied to something (such as a backpack). There is a sleeve on the back into which one can place the device being charged. I was able to get my Nexus 7 (7” tablet) into the sleeve. The ‘manual’ is a fine print 5” x 4” card printed in color. It states that the charger is designed for charging Grape Solar Mobile Power Packs and implies that it won’t charge some devices directly. Its output can be up to 1.33 A at 5.65 Volts with a maximum voltage of 7.5 V ±5%

Seems funny something that's was made to sit in the sun would not be waterproof. New flash to this units maker the sun don't always shine. Also shame on me for not noticing its meant to charge a 6 volt battery. I had not use for it and returned it Home Depot. They were great and allowed me to my local home depot store. I would not hesitate to order online from Home Depot in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Green Power You need to use this with a compatible rechargeable power pack. REPEAT. You need to use this with a compatible rechargeable power pack. This panel is not designed to charge most devices on it's own. I tested a compatible "Stone" power pack from the same company to fully review this solar panel. I have also written a review on the power pack. The build quality of the solar panel was to my liking- soft, textile edges surrounding the flexible solar panels. Similar to a soft (but durable) tablet case. The panel has a pocket built into the back to hold things, like the power pack and/or phone and has D-Rings on all four corners to help attach to backpacks, suction cups, etc. Connection from solar panel to battery pack is mini USB. Panel efficiency will be case-by-case basis. I used this to charge the battery pack during the day in the window and charged a smartphone or two at night. I found in bright daylight it will charge a pack against the window with a screen. In dim/cloudy situations, the solar panel worked against the window without screen. Panel is built robust and sturdy and is compact enough to fit in backpacks, computer bags and some tablet cases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works, great solution. This has been a great solution for me. My vehicle only has one 12V socket doesn't work unless the car is running so I have a hard time keeping all my devices charged. I also work in a converted warehouse with thick concrete walls which cause my cell battery to drain quicker trying to keep signal strength up. Then there are the situations where my phone battery is low and I can't be in the car and don't have a charger readily available or a wall outlet readily available. When researching options (buying more chargers and leaving them at home/work/car or charger packs) I decided to try a solar charger to see if it might be a good solution. Since I also go camping and boating and there is more sun than electricity available this looked like a good home/work/car and activities solution. When the panel arrived I read that it recommended a battery as a buffer between the device and the panel. So I picked up a 8800mAh portable battery for around $30 so not overly expensive. The panel is fairly responsive to light. Obviously it works best when its sunny out. I've laid it flat on my car dashboard when it was sunny out and it was working regardless of direction. I was even able to use it on a cloudy rainy day pointed directly at where the sun was behind the clouds. It didn't work on an overcast day just pointing it North out the window. Point being it will work in some less than optimal conditions. I could tell it was working too because the battery pack had LEDs that blink when its charging which is handy to know if I need to re-position the panel or not. If you use a battery be sure it has enough mAh to charge the device you want to use with it. My 8800mAh will charge my phone 3-4 times, a large tablet most of the way, or a mini tablet several times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works so far. Got this on sale for around $30.00. Used it once on a cell phone. I wont keep up if your useing the phone to play games or something. But I bought it to use while camping to charge things. I'm sure it will work for that real well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Go Charger does not work well The charger does not work well. Sometimes even in direct sunlight it does not charge. It seems to charge when it wants to, not when you want it to. I would like to return it.
