Bought this to replace my broken door closer on both of my screen doors. I like that they are metal and not plastic like the ones I replace them with.

Works as advertised! Cannot complain, it will provide you an easy way to keep your storm door open!

Being just five feet tall, I love the push button feature. The old closer had the typical slide mechanism that was just out of my reach. Installation was easy too.

Bought this door closer to replace the original one which became defective (it would no longer allow door to close -- had to remove it). Closing the door now possible with this new closer, but need to keep in mind that U need to push button to hold it open -- NOT to allow door to close (kind of counter-intuitive). Would be better if U had to do it for both operations -- holding door open AND allowing door to close.

I was able to replace the closer that I got with the Anderson storm door in a few minutes using the existing hardware. So far this closer is much better than the original one which surprises me since I always felt Anderson made a really good product. Not perfect but a good product for the money.

The closer on our brand new Anderson/Emco storm door was no match for February winds, as a gust blew the door right out of my hand as I opened it. Unlike previous events which either bent the closer rod, ripped it off the door jamb, or both, this time the closer itself just ripped open right at the end cap.
Since the Anderson warrantee doesn't cover wind damage, and not wishing to pay Anderson's exhorbitant price for door closers, I found this other brand on Home Depot's website. After doing some research on HD's and the company's own site, I went for the Smooth Close model. It was EXTREMELY easy to install - just popped out the two existing retainer pins, lined up this unit (keeping all the Anderson brackets in place), and replaced the pins. Took about a minute.
It does the job, on calm days. If you have ANY wind your door is subject to, DO NOT LET GO of the door until you manually push it closed. The closer does NOT have the oomph to hold and pull the door closed against any wind. Also, if your main door has a decent weather tightness, the air pressure seal created when the storm door closes against it can NOT be overcome by the closer's final pull, again requiring a manual push.
The site says the closer body is plastic. Quite frankly, you can't tell. It has the weight, appearance and feel of aluminum.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MikeNSX Perfect for pets you don't want anymore!
This is the second one I tried. Both suffer from the same two problems. 1. It is WEAK and will not close a standard insulated storm door. 2. It often stops in the middle letting the door half open. Even with it disconnected, it stops at mid-travel. Perfect for for pets you don't want anymore.
