Customer Questions & Answers

Does it come with a battery?

Just wanted to be sure this comes with a battery. I've seen some places which carry it at a cheaper price then to find out theirs don't come with the battery.
Asked by: BobJones
No, this is the corded model.

Where can I find a parts list for this? The manual doesn't come with one, and GreenWorks simply won't respond. Thanks.

The manual calls the part I need a "spool retainer" on page 10 of the trimmer attachment manual. However, on the GreenWorks and OrderTree sites they don't have anything called a "spool retainer". Does HomeDepot sell parts for this? Has anybody had any luck trying to get parts or even a parts list? Gary
Asked by: Gary
Greenworks changed the spool design and the manuals. The manuals no longer have a parts list. You must call the toll free number in the manual, wait 20 minutes to talk with anyone. They will promise to e-mail a parts list to you, but I'm still waiting. The line spool doesn't hold much line. The new design included the Bumper to advance the line into the spool. I tried ordering one at the 800 number. They don't seem to be able to get the correct part.

Customer Reviews

18 in. 10-Amp Electric String Trimmer is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid trimmer We've had this string trimmer for about a year now, it's about as good as electric string trimmers get. You can chop down just about anything in your way. My primary complain is with the string head design, it is absolutely ancient and parts for it are difficult to find. This kind of design might have been fine ten years ago, but it's just not good enough today. For people buying this today, I recommend you look into a Ryobi Reel Easy II head, it is a more modern design. This motor can absolutely handle thicker line.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frustrated in Seattle! I ordered this string trimmer based on the high rating provided by Consumer Reports. Since it wasn't available in the store, I had to go to the store to pick it up a week later. I opened the box and assembled the parts of the trimmer, which was easy and straight-forward enough. Then came the moment of truth. I started in the edging configuration around the border of the garden. I got ten feet and the strings popped out! Then I thought okay, maybe they were temporary strings so I figured I would remove the housing as instructed by the manufacturer in the directions. The spool would not come loose! I tried pliers and gloves, no luck. I loaded it into the car and returned it. I replaced it with a single-string Ryobi, which I am only moderately happy with. Why can't anyone make dual-string electric trimmers that work anymore????

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very powerful, but otherwise badly designed This trimmer is powerful and easy to put together. That's the good. The bad is that it will likely be the worst trimmer you ever work with. A little thin safety button that has to be depressed at the same time as the trigger for it to work. That doesn't sound bad, but it's really badly designed. If I just squeeze down with my hand the safety never engages. So I have to use finger and thumb compression instead of just doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is if you have much trimming to do at all. Chances are if you are going out of your way to find a powerful trimmer you have some serious trimming to do. You hand will be cramping inside of 10 minutes. Then it gets worse. They include a shoulder strap as the unit is not what you would call light weight. However they didn't provide multiple connection points (for different sized people) and they do not put the single connection point at the point of balance. What this leads to is that you end up holding the motor/trigger assembly well behind where you generally hold a weed trimmer...this while using finger compression to hold down the trigger and safety. It makes it horrible to use. My back is screaming at me as I write this. Then it gets worse. The rotation of the head slings all the debris you just cut right at you! And it has one of the smallest debris guards I have ever seen. It's actually got a large cut away just so more debris can get slung back at you. So there it is. It's powerful. While you stand and use it in a contortionist position it will sling stuff at you ...powerfully.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Awkward and Uncomfortable but Works Pretty Well This trimmer is very long, awkward, heavy, hurts my wrists, and doesn't feed string very well at all. It does trim well if you can hold it at the right angles. I tried adjusting the handle up and down and cannot find a comfortable way to hold it. The handle is straight with the pole and needs to be curved down so you don't have to bend your wrist and lift your shoulder. You have to squeeze the trigger with a fair amount of force all the time, which is tiring. The string does not feed out to get you an 18 inch path. When you get it at the right angle and the string is out enough this trimmer does cut pretty well through even 1/2 inch wide blades of grass. If you are tall (It is too long for me and I am 5' 9"), have strong hands, wrists and shoulders this may be okay for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very powerful but I have to do major brush clearance for fire protection. The unit the work very well except the head attachment to the shaft would not stay in the proper place. There is a locking button to prevent this but not strong enough.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Parts The people at GreenTree and OrderTree couldn't supply a parts list. They keep telling me (on the phone and email) that the parts list is in the manual. It is not, and if you can get them to check, they don't have a parts list either. Get a better brand that has support.
