I have a Lynx 30" drop-in grill in a custom built island with a conventional burner on one side and a dedicated sear burner on the other. This item cleaned the grill grates quickly and thoroughly. I've used countless steel brushes, ceramic coated brushed, etc. Nothing cleaned the grates even close to the Grillstone.
As noted by other reviews, the blocks disintegrate to dust. I simply placed a layer of paper towels under the grate so the dust would not clog the burners (especially the ceramic sear burner). Simple but effective.
If you don't want the grill grates extra clean, don't put in the extra "effort" to deal with the dust. If you want to keep your investment in top shape go the extra "mile" and put something underneath to collect the dust. You will still save time and effort with how well the Grillstone cleans.
And yes, you need to purchase a couple blocks here and there but that goes back to the investment part of it. If it's worth it to you to keep your grill in top shape then spring $10 for a couple blocks!

I used this cleaning block as the final step during a major annual grill cleanup procedure.
First - Used Easy-Off Heavy Duty Oven / Grill Cleaner
Second - Used Scotch Brite Cleaning Pad With Scouring Powder
Third - Used Cleaning Block
Note: I took the grill grates and racks out of the grill before cleaning anything. I would not dream of doing any of this with the grates or racks in the grill. I placed the grates / racks on a concrete surface outdoors so I could easily sweep up and dispose of the residue. The cleaning required three Cleaning Blocks, but they removed everything (except in tight spots) that the oven / grill cleaner, etc. did not.
I would not use these for "routine" grill cleaning - only when the grill needs serious clean-up. Stick to using a brush with stainless steel bristles for routine pre-cooking cleaning.
I am happy with this product. It just needs to be properly used, and using it with the grates in the grill is most certainly - in my opinion - not the way to go.

This product is a joke. It turns into a pile of dust as you use it!
I have a standard size 2 burner BBQ with an upper rack and the 'GrillStone' didn't last thru a single cleaning of the grills and rack. I ended up having to vacuum the piles of disintegrated dust out of my BBQ and off my deck. Waste of time, waste of money.

I would recommend this product under the condition that the buyer be aware that it will wear out quickly. I have tried brushes, cleaner sprays, scotch brite pads and everything else I can think of to clean the grates on my IR grill. Nothing came close to the performance of this product in removing every spec of residue and buildup. That said, each stone gave me two cleanings before it was to work to use again.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by GPBruce Dissolved in my hand!
The "stone" has the strength and consistency of a large square aspirin! It dissolved in my hand as I worked on the cooking grid. By the time I had done 50% of a 15" by 24" inch grill, it was gone! This is really a dumb product...and the only thing "green" about this product is the color of YOUR money!

You can completely use up a GrillStone cleaning block in a single cleaning. I used up an entire block cleaning the grate on my 19 inch Weber charcoal grill -- the block was down to nothing before I was really finished cleaning the grate.
The next time I clean my grill I plan to use a ScotchBrite scouring pad. I think that would be more cost effective.

The GrillStone is a great product because it molds to the shape of your grill grates and cleans in between them really well. I made the mistake of pushing too hard the first time I used it and that wears the block down quicker. All it takes is gentle pressure and my grill looks brand new!
