Customer Questions & Answers

How do you clean the block after using?

It will eventually get grease soaked.
Asked by: pk1
I normally flip it around or start the grooves in a cross pattern "#" so that it gets cleaned as it wears.

Cleaning Block is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from do not use on stainless grill grates I bought this because it seemed like it conceptually would do a good job, and it really does. I also bought it because it said it could be used on stainless steel grates. However, while it does clean them really well, my brand new shiny polished stainless steel grates are now scratched. The product is so abrasive that I have scratches running up and down the grates now and I believe it's causing food to stick more then normal. This might be good to use on cast iron, but I would not at all recommend using it on stainless steel. I will be contacting the manufacturer to see if they can help me with my stainless grates.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! I dont think this product is the solution for cleaning your grill after every use, but for me, I bought one to clean my grates at the end of my bbq season and it worked WONDERS!!! I’m putting the grill away with grates that look like new after a summer of built up goo and crispy mess that accumulated over the summer. The block was spent afterward but for $5 it was well worth it...15 minutes and a quick rinse and done.

I grill on average twice a month all year around and probably use about 3 of these a year. I gave up on the brush that gets all gooed up and normally stops working after a summer season. I know I can use these and they leave the grill spotless. I have a Weber Summit grill.

Removes residue well provided these steps taken. Wire brush grates first to remove loose material (any respectable griller owns/uses a wire brush). Water spray grates to loosen remaining material. Lightly rub grillstone across grates. Water spray again to remove minute glass residue. Finish by rubbing grates with a rough polyester scrub pad (found in the cleaning products aisle, about $3.00 for two—very durable and last forever). This process takes about 3 minutes—particularly if you routinely clean the grates—and the stone lasts several cleanings (some reviewers apparently applied too much pressure that quickly wore down the stone). Overall, I find the stone, water spray, and scrubbing pad more economical and easier to use than cleaning sprays/chemicals. I have a gas burner and infrared/firebox burner combo. To avoid minute glass residue from settling on the firebox and thus clogging it I stack the grates over the gas burner for cleaning, replacing the cleaned top grate back over the firebox and then clean the grate over the gas burner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made my grill like new The GrillStone is a great product because it molds to the shape of your grill grates and cleans in between them really well. I made the mistake of pushing too hard the first time I used it and that wears the block down quicker. All it takes is gentle pressure and my grill looks brand new!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One time use grill cleaner I agree with previous reviewers who commented that this is a one time use cleaning stone. The material is so soft, it form deep grooves with one use and the sides of the grooves were so fragile they broke easily. Considerable stone residue was left on briquets and briquet holders and the grill. This product is not worth the purchase price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cleaning Tool I have a Lynx 30" drop-in grill in a custom built island with a conventional burner on one side and a dedicated sear burner on the other. This item cleaned the grill grates quickly and thoroughly. I've used countless steel brushes, ceramic coated brushed, etc. Nothing cleaned the grates even close to the Grillstone. As noted by other reviews, the blocks disintegrate to dust. I simply placed a layer of paper towels under the grate so the dust would not clog the burners (especially the ceramic sear burner). Simple but effective. If you don't want the grill grates extra clean, don't put in the extra "effort" to deal with the dust. If you want to keep your investment in top shape go the extra "mile" and put something underneath to collect the dust. You will still save time and effort with how well the Grillstone cleans. And yes, you need to purchase a couple blocks here and there but that goes back to the investment part of it. If it's worth it to you to keep your grill in top shape then spring $10 for a couple blocks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works amazingly but doesn't last I would recommend this product under the condition that the buyer be aware that it will wear out quickly. I have tried brushes, cleaner sprays, scotch brite pads and everything else I can think of to clean the grates on my IR grill. Nothing came close to the performance of this product in removing every spec of residue and buildup. That said, each stone gave me two cleanings before it was to work to use again.
