These electroplated nails are easy to work with. I agree with everyone on that. I put up 12 square of architectural shingles on a large garage. After I was finished, I notice that the few nails that landed on the ground were rusting already, just from a little rain.
I looked this up on roofing websites and they agreed. The plating is almost useless. You might say, they aren't going to get wet since they are covered with shingles. NOT true. During humid weather, the moist air gets under the shingles. At night, when it is cooler, the water vapor condenses on the nails and they start rusting easily. Roofers find heavily rusted nails even after a few years. If you see dew on your grass, those nails are wet, too, and they don't dry out quickly.
The best roofers hand nail hot-dipped galvanized nails. You can't use them in a gun. They're expensive, too. We had a house with slate and hot-dipped nails that were over 100 years old with no failure due to rust. No way would these nails last that long.
There are hot galvanized nails, that aren't the same as hot-dipped. Not as good as hot-dipped.
I am ticked off that I didn't do better research on the nails. I hope they give me 20 years. Roofing guarantees are mostly useless, especially if your nails are rusty. Any little flaw and they void the warranty. Forget that 50 year stuff.

occasionally didn't feed - not sure if it is / was nails or gun but nature of the beast when working with guns and nail. Sure beats hand nailing the entire roof.
