Customer Questions & Answers

What applicator do I use for the 3/4 inch hot-dip galvanized staples?

They don't look like they would work with a regular staple gun - or would they? Thanks.
Asked by: esmeralda
I use a hammer but do NOT expect good results. I would recommend a different brand of product. From my experience I consider this staple as a very poor product. Just to use the hammer you need to bend nearly every staple to form a better U shape. Failure to reshape every staple results in EVERY staple being smashed flat - splaying out. If you tap the staple into a better U shape then only the staples with the worst flash and the most poorly sheared staples smash flat - maybe 1 in 10 after reshaping by hand. This staple cost me a great deal of time in the process of reshaping each staple. I will not buy Grip Rite products in the future.

One side is shorter than the other which means the bend process is not accurate during manufacturing. If you look closely there REALLY IS only one sharp tip and it is has flash hanging off. The other side is a poor sheer as if cut with a dull pair of sheers. If this is done in a 4 slide press then the press is not set up correctly. Both side should be even. Both tips should be sharp and IDEALLY the curved head of the staple should be a perfect 180 degree U. I purchased a box and had to hammer NEARLY EVERY staple into a better U shape. Because of 1 side being blunt the staple often did not drive into the substrate but instead smashed flat. If I did not bend the staples into a better U shape then the staple was GUARANTEED to smash flat EVERY SINGLE TIME. Poorly formed staples and I will not purchase Grip Rite products in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low quality; difficult to use in harder wood. These staples will frequently flatten and not penetrate even mildly-hard pine wood despite taking extreme care. Some staples needed to be bent to shape before use. Others were unusable due to attached gobs of galvanizing. They are clearly a low quality import made with softer metal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MDS Fence & Paint, Install staples w/ fence pliers. These staples can most easily be installed by holding staples in a pair of fence pliers (8",10" or 12") and gently striking with hammer. Once points dig in, you may strike harder. Remove pliers and complete driving of staple as desired. The key is that fence pliers have a built in set of holes in jaw to hold the staple legs while they are being struck.
