Customer Questions & Answers

Photo shows oval head, not bugle

Do these really have a bugle head (with a curved slope between the head and the shaft) like the description says, or do they have an oval head (with a straight cone coming to a sharp angle with the shaft) like the photo indicates? I'm looking for bugle, because I do a lot of temporary wood construction with drywall screws (for theatre sets). I know the bugle head countersinks into the soft pine I use, but I'm not sure about the more traditional wood-screw head that's pictured. thanks!

Yes, these are basically drywall screws and should work the same. If you want something that will countersink nicely try item Home Depot item 1000039818

Will these screws replace door hinge screws that do not go deep enough for real protection?

I want to replace these on front door, door leading to garage and garage side door. #8 3 IN. PHILLIPS BUGLE-HEAD WOOD SCREWS (1 LB.-PACK)

First time user of this particular item - feels cheap, they bend, strip out and do not work very well. Was using to put 2"x4" shelves together. Would not recommend - I would rather buy a sturdier outdoor screw.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better options available This item is basically a drywall screw which isn't made for wood to wood applications. Try using newer construction screws that have a star/torx drive head. They are sturdier and easier to use with drilling into wood. Similar item here would be Home Depot SKU 1000039818.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy these screws! Phillips head screws are inappropriate and unacceptable for 3 inch (or longer) wood screws. The friction between the screw and the wood is too much for a phillips drive to apply enough torque to drive the screw. The bit will cam out every time, likely stripping the head, and making it nearly impossible to back out the half-inserted screw. If your project requires a 3 inch screw, make sure you get screws with a star or torx head instead, such as Home Depot SKU # 834468. The difference is night and day.
