Soft wood would be pine, fir, redwood, alder or poplar. Hardwood would be oak or cherry. 1/8" bit for hardwood, 7/64" bit for soft wood.

Answer:
Drywall sheets need to be screwed at 8" oc for walls, and 7" oc for ceilings. A 4x8 sheet hung on 24" oc studs (wall application) will take 35 screws. See more here at the gypsum association website.

Answer:
I normally put between 18 and 24 screws when the panel is hung from a ceiling and between 14 and 18 when it's on a wall. You will need additional screws when fastening near cutouts (for things like electrical outlets) and anywhere you have to make a special shaped cut. My general rule of thumb is 4 across on center and between 4 and 5 rows down depending on if its being hung vertically or horizontally.

HI, I'm wondering if it is possible to buy 25 LB box of coarse (eventually fine) thread of 1 INCH LENGTH drywall screws. I know you (and other stores) have 25 LB boxes but all starts with 1.25 inch length screws. I am an electrician and use 1 inch screws a lot. Economically it is better for me to buy 25 lb (approximately $40.00) than any other quantity boxes.
Thanks a lot.
