Replacement glass?

This question is from 36 in. x 80 in. 501 Series Genesis Steel Black Prehung Security Door
September 14, 2016
We had this door installed last fall and unfortunately this past spring one of the glass panels shattered to smithereens when a rock randomly hit it while husband was mowing the lawn nearby. Screen that came with it was fine throughout the spring and summer but now with the fall upon us, we will need a replacement glass panel. HD says they don't sell the part and neither does Grisham web site. I don't want to buy a whole new door--any suggestions, please?

Just read response to a similar question but confused. I have a small door in my home that will only permit me to install a door of 28 inches MAXIMUM. Before I order, was the response to a previous writer correct, that the actual total overall with of this door, with hardware for the sides, will fit a 28 inch Maximum opening ?

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 76 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality Home Depot installers put this door in because the frame was not perpendicular or parallel (more like a rhombus). It involved shims and a second person to assist. Would have been impossible for me without help. That being said, the door is solid, pending some longer personally attached wood screws into the door frame for the damper due to dry rot. Not faulting the installers. They didn't have the right length screws to hold the damper securely to the door frame. Otherwise, the door fits well despite the difficulties involved in the installation. I provided the deadbolt and door knob as the door does not come with that hardware. They fit perfectly into the latch plates. Very satisfied with the whole job. October 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is my third and last door that needed this security. Heavy duty, if anyone wants to mess with this door, I believe that they will leave some DNA behind! October 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Review of my security door purchase and installation. The purchase was smooth. When the first door was delivered, the installer realized the door was dented in transit. A new door was ordered. When the second door was delivered, the expediter forgot to call the installer to set up a date to install. After my persistent calling, a date was finally set. The installer called me and told me there was no lock and handle set with the package. I told to pick a set that he would recommend for the security door. He installed the door which he did a fine job but the lock and handle set was not satisfactory. The lock had an inside manual switch to operate the dead bolt. You could break the glass or slice the screen, reach in and manually unlock the door. We needed a dead bolt that was key operated from both sides. I went back to Home Depot, got a dead bolt keyed to the existing door keys. This has taken over a month to get to this point to hear from the installer about correcting the dead bolt. Very disappointing. BTW, the HD salesperson, Patty, has been extremely helpful. January 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Header cap was damaged, but still happy This is a good looking / solid door (especially for the price.) Unfortunately, the header cap was really warped and it took 3 weeks for me to get a replacement from the manufacturer. Other than that, no complaints. October 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I LOVE THIS DOOR , BUT! After my 36" x 80" 501 Series Storm Door was Installed by Home Depot and the Installer had left my House, I noticed that, there was no Trim Strip that matched up to where the spots Locks for my Kwikset Deadbolt and Entry Knob Locks to slide into. So, the installer had just left my locks resting against my original Wood Door Frame, which is not very effective when it comes to Security. I went back to home Depot and asked if the Door should have come with an 80" Trim Plates, that would line up to the section where the Locks would be installed? They didn't seem to know the answer. So, I said, was I supposed to buy my own Lock Plates for the Locks to slide into? They didn't seem to know that either. Home Depot told me to call the installer, but I haven's been able to get a hold of him yet. Can I buy a double Kickset Lockset Plate for the Locks to work properly? June 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great, but not sure how secure it is I have mixed feelings about the door. One the one hand it looks great compared to the other security doors I've seen. On the other, I've had a number of issues with it since I decided to install it myself. -- I ordered store delivery because it was the cheapest option. It took them like 2 weeks to deliver it and then the package was severely damaged on the outside. And by the time I got it home (just a couple of miles) I realized it was also not properly secured within the package. -- Installation instructions are a nightmare. I don't think the person who wrote them even saw the door themselves or tried to follow. I do all house projects myself, but this is the first one I thought was unnecessarily complex and could have been made easier if the manufacturer put a bit more effort into it. -- The door looks sturdy, but I don't think it's actually secure for two reasons. First, the say the glass insert is mounted to the door frame doesn't seem to be able to sustain even moderate impact. I think that even shaking it for a couple of minutes will just make the insert slide off the hooks it is supported by. Second, the way it attaches to the jamb is a bit questionable. I understand if you live in a city it's unlikely someone will just unscrew your door and take off the frame. But I can imagine that in a location where they have a couple of minutes where noise is not an issue, the door can just be unmounted completely with not much effort. I'm not an export in breaking into places though, so it's my personal unprofessional opinion solely based on visual observation. So, if this was another product, I would have returned it and looked for a better one, but after spending for much effort and time on it I just don't want to deal with it. It's not perfect, but it makes my place 10% more secure than it was, which is potentially good enough. October 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 501 Series Genesis Door Unpacking the door was straight forward, installation was somewhat easy. Trying to take out the slight warp in the door was the next struggle. Once the door was up, door closer installed, spring attached the only problem left was pushing the strike/locking piece (portion of door the deadbolt slides through) out of the way of the deadbolt itself. Overall the owner likes the look of the door. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking, sturdy doors I purchased a new home. It had been recently renovated, but came without security doors. I ordered and had these installed through Home Depot, which took way longer than it needed to, and communication wasn't the best; HOWEVER, now that the doors are finally installed, they look great. Even better, I feel much safer in my new home now! April 13, 2016
