With the recent accidental gun discharges on the news I decided to get a gun lock that easy to operate and safe enough to deter my children from it. All my family is aware what's inside and understand that if anyone attempts to open it, I will know about it. This products gives me the peace of mind I need. It strong and I am convinced that it will last a very long time.
Within a simple finger swipe I can get to my gun and protect my family and most importantly it is safe.
Thank you for such great product....

After much research, I decided to purchase the biometric version of the Speedvault safe. I wanted it more to secure a firearm and access it quickly - than to prevent theft. The steel is adequate, but someone with a few minutes and a screwdriver could get into it. We have no children in our home and I am mounting this in a hidden location - so it should do the trick. The real issue is that the instructions are HORRIBLE - yes, I screamed that. The instructions are written so poorly that I almost gave up and shipped it back. No diagrams, incorrect directions, references to do things that are not explained...ugh. Here are some things to help make it easier for you:
-Install a good, fresh 9 volt. The battery compartment is on the inside/top.
-The pushbutton will open the safe until you successfully register a fingerprint.
-Registering a fingerprint is simple, once you know how. Push the "learn" button for about a second until the green LED begins to blink. Slide your finger over the reader 4 times. After each slide - you'll hear a beep. After the 4th slide, the light will blink 5 more times and turn off. You should now be registered.
-To open the safe, push the button and slide your registered finger over the reader. Mine works well.
The other thing I should note is that the manufacturer has extremely poor customer service and long, long hold times if you call.
Not a great value, not great service, but it is what I need - so I'll keep it. Your mileage may vary.

I bought this thinking that the finger swipe would be the fastest way to get to your firearm. It is, assuming it works on the first swipe. It usually takes 2, 3, even 4 swipes to get it to read, and this is under optimal, non-stress conditions. There is no way I would rely on it in an emergency. I would need to keep the backup key close by, but hidden somehow.
It was pretty easy to install, although I replaced the 1/2" long wood screws for the bracket with 1" long, as I'm securing it to a solid 1" thick bed frame. The thumbscrews holding the safe to the bracket are tiny - they look like #6, but with an oddball thread pitch. They may be metric. One good swift kick would separate the safe from the bracket, so it definitely isn't theft proof.
I'm returning this one and buying the push button code model, but I'll probably drill out the threads in the bracket, install #10 thread inserts in the bed frame and use #10 thumbscrews to secure the safe to the bed frame. I'll also hook a lanyard to the safe and bed frame for added security from theft.
Overall, a very good concept, but dubious execution.

The gun safe is easy to set up once you install batteries. This was one of the least expensive gun safes that I found. You can use multiple fingerprints for different family members as a plus. All in all it was a good buy.
