For example, can you have a 3 digit combo (which I don't recommend). 4 digit combo? 5 digit combo? etc?

Answer:
It will accept minimum 4 digits and maximum 6 digits. Neat thing is you can enter individual digits with a combination of dual pressed digits. Example; Press 1, Press 2, Press 3&4 together, Press 3, Press 4.
You can mix it up in any combination which is cool.

Answer:
I use a combination of 1 and 2 (simultaneous press) buttons. Instructions note that pressing more than one button (simult) counts as '1' entry...and as many as 6 entries can be set up for access. I muted the beep for discretion...user defined option.

Joe, I currently have a Ruger SP101 .357 short nose revolver in this safe. It is a snug fit. Take a look at the dimensions of the SP101 compared to your gun. Hope this helps.

SpeedVault Series 0.17 cu. ft. Standard Hand Gun Safe is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Handy I bought the Speedvault Series 0.17 cu. ft. Standard Hand Gun Safe to put in our master closet. I wanted to have quick access, mostly at night, to a handgun, yet have it safely secured from visiting grandkids when they visit. I leave it locked all of the time since I can open it in about 5 seconds. A full size 1911 barely fits. Anything smaller is ok as well. It does make a clunking noise when it unlocks, but I wouldn't let that stop me from buying another one. Mounting was pretty straight forward. Not really a "safe", more of a security box. But, does the intended job well.

Depending on the size of the gun, some may fit more snug than others, but if you have one that fits snugly, you can simply cut away some of the padding to make it fit your gun better. This nice slimline model is great for small spaces where you need easy access quickly. I have had mine for about a month and have opened it up almost every day and never had a problem with it. Things I didn't like: First, I would like to have seen this come equipped like its larger vault siblings and have an electrical adapter hook up to save on batteries. Second, It is rather difficult to change the battery once you have it mounted - especially if it is in a small or narrow space that might be hard to get to the battery compartment from an odd angle (such as under a bed). Things I like: The small light that comes on when the safe is open is a nice feature. It stays on long enough to see that you are grabbing your gun safely and then the light goes out for saving battery use. I also like the beeping sound it makes when trying to access the vault. This is nice so that I can hear and know if anyone is trying to access it. I like the almost endless combinations you can come up with for a higher level of security to access the vault. I would highly recommend this purchase and have already told a lot of my friends about the SpeedVault and they are planning to purchase one themselves. It met my expectations and I feel safe knowing my guns are easily accessible in an emergency, but they are also safe from any children who may be in my house. I ended up purchasing two for my house and plan on a few more for various other locations as needed.

This won't necessarily keep a burglar from taking your firearm if they were to get in your house while you are away. They could probably kick/pry it off the wall, then take it with them to get to the inside of it later. However, this is great to keep your firearm safe from kids and guests, but still have it readily available. The features that this safe has are great. For the pass code you can use a double key press as one character, which makes it much more difficult for someone to guess the pin. Meaning, pressing 2 buttons at once passes as a single character. There is a way to check to see if the last attempted entry was successful or not. Meaning, if you think your kids may have been messing with it and trying to get in it, you can check to see if the correct code was used the last time the safe attempted to be accessed. It's as simple as holding down the 2 and 3 buttons at the same time for 5 seconds, when either a green or red light will display. Also, there is an option to mute the key presses. This is great if you are worried about an intruder hearing you accessing the safe, or to keep it quite in the morning and not disturb your significant other. The only complaint that I have about this safe is the noise that it does make though. When it unlocks, there is a relatively loud, and very distinct "click" or "chunk". This is the mechanism actually releasing the door I believe. It would be great if this was much quieter, as it somewhat defeats the purpose of muting the buttons. Installation was relatively simple. Most people like to mount these to their nightstands. However, my late father-in-law had built ourswhen he was a kid, so I didn't want to go drilling holes in this furniture that had been hand built by family and handed down to us. This meant I could either try mounting it to the bed, or mounting it to the wall. Mounting it to the bed would be the most ideal, and easiest to hide. However, It would be difficult to come up with a way of attaching it to the bed securely. I couldn't come up with any mounting solution that I thought would work well, so I mounted it to the wall. This is with the mounting bracket attaching to the back of the safe. (You have 3 options: Left Side, Right Side, or Rear) I wanted to mount it directly to some studs, but unfortunately there was not one between my bed and night stand. So, I simply screwed a couple 1x2's into the studs on either side. Then just mounted the safe to the 1x2's. It is very solid, and would definitely take some effort for someone to try and rip it off the wall. It could be done, but it won't be the easiest. Mounting to the side of the unit would be even more secure, as it would give less leverage to pull it off the wall. As far as mounting the unit to the bracket: It uses all thumb screws that install from inside the safe. You have to remove the door, which consists of removing 2 thumb screws from the bottom while the door is unlocked and open. It is very simple and I was able to have mine installed in 20 minutes, which included walking back and forth to the garage to get the random boards and screws that I needed to secure mine with the 1x2's. I want to mention that I used pliers to tighten down all of the thumb screws, though I don't think it is absolutely necessary. You get a little bonus Flambeau Zerust plastic tab looking thing. I don't know much about them, but they are supposed to help prevent corrosion to your firearm in a small enclosure. I thought this was great being that it was included for free! Hopefully it will work as advertised. I store a full size (4.5" barrel) semi auto in it, and it fits perfect. I don't think you will fit anything much bigger than that, as it takes up most of the room both height and length wise. At the end of the day, the safe opens quickly and easily every time. It was simple to install, and very easy to use with great user options. I highly recommend this to anyone planning to have a bedside firearm. It is a great way to keep protection nearby in a safe and responsible manner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bedside or Under Desk Gun Safe Keeps your hand gun safe, secure and ready for action. It is the ideal choice for a home or business looking for added security. The only negative thing about it would be that it's a little noisier than I would prefer when it opens. It makes an audible "clank" noise which isn't ideal. For $99.00, it's a great buy. - Digital keypad - Multiple mounting options - 18-Gauge steel construction - Backup override key included - Audio and LED low battery warning (audio is optional) - Easily switch to silent mode for stealthy and secure access

I have a toddler and wanted to be sure things were locked up, but with quick access for my wife and I. This was a great solution. Installation on the side of my nightstand took less than 10 minutes. It takes less than a second from verification of the code to the gun being ready to pull out. When programming it, I especially liked the fact that I can push multiple buttons at the same time as part of the unlock code rather than only having 4 individual buttons to choose from. That expanded the pass code range enormously. I also like the visual indicator (red light) if someone has pushed buttons that were not the pass code. So, if my toddler gets curious, I'll know if she tried pushing buttons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product For the money this is the best, most reliable safe of its kind I've found. Relatively simple to mount and the instructions are clear. Once programmed it opens reliably every time. It also has an LED that comes on when the door opens so that the contents can be easily seen; the light turns off after about 30 seconds. It's a convenient gun safe. Drawbacks: there is no room for an extra magazine. Also, if you have a light on your weapon you'll have to modify the foam with a bread knife but that is easy.

The vault has to be disassembled to mount it to the bracket, but it is a secure design when installation is complete. The key pad programming is custom flexible. I practice opening every night in the dark, and it works well; two months and the battery is good. I had to cut some of the foam lining to accommodate a light on my auto and that is fine, but with a lot of use the foam will wear-out. Home Depot had the best price.

Everything about this vault was great, from the layout to drill the holes, the mounting system, and just the way it works is great. I am pleased with how fast you can access the vault, so for those times when time is of the essence it is great, i can access it in approimately 2 seconds. I also like that should the battery die, i can access it with the key that came with it. Can't submit a photo because it will reveal where i keep it.
