Answer:
Depends on what you are spraying. Water works for most bug, weed sprays, might need solvents if you are spraying and oil based product. Just make sure the plastic will take it by trying a small area.

I had a similar issue. Had to crank down to make a tight seal on the lid. Maybe the yellow air release is open.

You have to loosen the handle (on top of the filler cap) and then pump several times to get the necessary preassure. Make sure that you don't loosen the filler cap during the process.

Must be the pressure relief valve is sticking open or the valve at the bottom of the plunger is stuck open. Try and see if there is something holding them open, bit of plastic or something.

Answer:
If you hear air leaking when you pump the handle try to remove and screw the lid back on. Also there is a small yellow valve on the top of the sprayer make sure that is in properly and not leaking. Try also to reconnect the sprayer connection. There are lots of parts and many places this can leak so you have to make sure all the parts are screwed in properly. If all else fails exchange it.

warranties on things like this are a waste of time. by the time you do all the paper work and postage and the like you could have purchased a new one. if the product is broken when you get it home and try to use it, take it back to the store and ask for a replacement or a refund.

Your "honest" satisfaction is the only "warranty" you should expect from a 10 dollar sprayer....If you're trying to spray a material with bulk in it (ie: Paint..stain...heavy weed killers) you need a diff. tip usually intended for commercial type sprayers....We use our HDX to water hard to reach plants....

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by 78 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what we needed to get the job done. We decided to scrape all the popcorn off our ceilings and this sprayer made everything extremely simple. It's easy to use and I know we will be able to use it for many different purposes. Glad we have this as a tool. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Every Homeowner Needs This! Like other HDX products, the 1 Gallon Multi-Purpose Sprayer performs very well. The unit is easy to assemble thanks to the excellent instruction manual. The container is large enough for one around the house application of insect destroyer, or other applications around the yard. The easily operated pump is highly efficient. The adjustable nozzle ensures precise application. I should have gotten this sprayer years ago. Highly recommended. July 27, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap sprayer This was the least expensive sprayer I could find at the local Home Depot store. It was $4-5 cheaper than the next least expensive model. I bought this to spray bug killer rather than use the trigger mount that came with the bug spray to make the job go faster. If I hadn't put harmful chemicals into the sprayer, I probably would have returned it for a better model. The pump action doesn't work terribly well, and depending on how you hold the sprayer, the cap (which includes the pump) wants to unscrew and come off). I wouldn't buy it again and I wouldn't recommend you do so either. Buy the next one up in price. August 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It holds water It is cheap. The price is cheap the quality is cheaper. If you need a disposable sprayer for the one off chemical treatment then never use again this is your go to sprayer. If you want to use it multiple times. Find another one. I use mine to water food patches I have in my woods. I pour water in it and spray it. About 3 to 5 gallons every other day. I return it back to HD every two weeks for a new one because the top is leaking air. Again and again. Fortunately I will be putting it up for the winter before the 90 return policy is over. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not hold pressure; leaks air I've used an earlier model for years until the seals perished. Bought this as replacement but it can't hold the pressure. I few pumps and, as the pressure builds, I can hear it leaking from the cap (not the relief valve). It means I can only spray about 3 feet before it becomes a dribble and I have to pump again. Will return for a better brand. It's not even a case of you get what you pay for; this one just doesn't seal tight so it doesn't work. September 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great sprayer Product worked as promised. I would recommend this item as a good value for the price. September 6, 2016
