what material is used for the straps in the SKU 126724 tie down set?

Asked by: Anonymous
Per the description, they are polyester webbing.

How do I get these out of the package?! I can get the top part out (fabric strap) but not the hooks!

Asked by: jlay
Both the top and bottom section has tabs that you lift and pull down or lift and pull up to release the ratchet and the hooks. If you look closely at the packaging it has arrows and instructions on how to get it done. Hope this helps!

I am looking at these straps to help me secure a refrigerator to my dolly to move will the straps work okay? The fridge is about 1300 pounds.

Asked by: ArmyNavy
No, do not do this! I used three of these straps to tie down a mattress, slowly accelerated to 25 MPH, and had my mattress come flying off. After pulling my mattress of the road, I found the straps. Each one was broken--two had broken ratchets and one had a broken strap. Do not buy or use these. They are completely unsafe.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the best quality I purchased this 4 pack of straps to use in light hauling. The very 1st time I used one strap adn started to winch it down the hooks on each end broke through the nylon straps. Now I have 3 of them left and do not trust them to hold anything going down the road at 50 mph. The web strap is very light weight, almost dangerously light weight. I guess if you want to secure something that is super light and do not need to winch to an unmovable object then these will work. I see plenty of these orange straps along the interstate when I travel, now I know why! Buy heavier straps and save money in the long run.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Highly recommend NOT buying these. Very cheap! I tied down my motorcycle in a trailer (done this several times with other tie downs, never had a problem). I didn't have any other tie downs other than these available. It was about a 350 mile journey, and about 5-10 miles from my house one of them snapped and caused A LOT damages to the bike. The tie downs had been used 3-4 times, and were less than 2-3 years old. They had NEVER been used in poor weather either. Definitely shell out a few extra dollars and get the lifetime warranty, as these ones have a horrible warranty. Well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice inexpensive cargo straps I have used these straps for 5 years. I've used them to tie down in rental trailers lots of times. They work well and I have not had and failures. There always seems to be enough time between uses that I forget how to feed the strap in so that it will release correctly. So I took these pictures in case they will help anyone with the same problem. If the strap is fed in the correct way then they will release very simply. If the strap is fed into the spool in the wrong direction, then the spool will get stuck when you try to release and that's no fun at all. Again, look at the pictures.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from For those who know how to use them I have experience with tie down straps. If you know how to use them, they work just fine. A ratchet strap is not meant to have all the strap material wound around the unit. That is not how they work. My only complaint with these is the UV resistance of the material. I have a set installed on a small trailer and it has been in the sun for the past 3 weeks. Both straps are already VERY faded in the areas exposed. This may weaken the strap a small amount but these are lite duty straps to begin with. I like the function & use of these but the longevity is not best suited for areas where they are exposed to UV/sunlight for extended periods of time. No recommendation from me UNLESS you remove from the direct sunlight after use. No instructions included. I guess they assume people know how to use. I found these to be grossly over packaged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy, Simple, and Cheap 4 tie downs for $14.00? This is a great deal. They are super easy to use. Run the strap through the spool, pull it all the way till it is tight, THEN start ratcheting. That's it. Those who give it a poor score because they can't use them because the strap interferes with the ratchet teeth or because of a lack of instructions, must have absolutely zero experience with tie downs. They all essentially work the same as these and are SUPER easy to use once you figure it out. Takes literally 5 seconds to secure one. If it is taking longer than 5 seconds, YOU are doing something wrong, it's not the tie down. Generally, tie downs are used to secure a load while transporting something, not generally used out doors exposed to UV light for weeks at a time. If this is your use, then buy some better quality expensive ones for professional use, like truckers have. For the average intended use, these work great. People want a Ferrari for a Chevy price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Value-Type Product that Works Well IMPORTANT: Reviews giving this product a poor rating due to an inability to spool-up all of the belt slack are by consumers using the product in a way it was not intended to be used. As far as I'm concerned, those reviews mentioning that are thoroughly invalid. Ratchet straps like these are NOT intended to have all of the slack wrapped up on the spool - the line is to be pulled tight BEFORE ratcheting to tighten the strap. Extra belt/ribbon is always going to be trailing out of the ratchet - it is the consumer's responsibility to then tie-up or otherwise secure this slack. On to my review! I bought this item to tie a queen mattress and box spring to the roof of an SUV for a 100-mile trip, and they did the job handily. The vinyl-coated hooks were a nice touch to help protect the glass and finish of the vehicle, since I had to string two and a half of these together to span the length of the SUV and still anchor them underneath to the frame. The ratchet area is covered in a fair amount of soft rubber and plastic that also helps prevent damage, but not coated in a sloppy fashion or anything. The mechanism is all metal; no worries there. One belt was defective due to a missed quality control check at the factory. Like any good consumer, ALWAYS inspect critical safety and security products such as these for flaws or defects before putting to use. I'm glad I did - I brought the bad piece back to the store, swapped it out, and was on my way. These are not intended to be the highest quality item in the world. My guess is that they're good for only a handful of uses before they wear out, but for this price, that's fine. The packaging will even state that the nature of the product is that it is a CONSUMABLE good, meaning it WILL wear out over time. That is to be expected. For what I used them for, these are a great value for the money. I'd easily recommend them to others and buy them again myself. Note About the Missing Star: I never give anything a perfect score. It has to be mightily impressive to earn a perfect score, and nothing ever does that. The stitching on the belts seems a bit light, and the fact that I received one that missed QC and had to be exchanged fully prevents me from issuing this item a perfect score.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tie-downs; quite a value I needed to store two kayaks from my garage ceiling so I gave these tie-down straps a try. They worked perfectly for my needs! The ratchet made it very easy to get the kayaks "snug" to the ceiling. For those folks that tried to ratchet in all 12 feet of strap, that is not how these tie-downs (or any like this) are meant to be used. You pull the strap through and get it close to the objects you are securing, then ratchet it down. The spool takes up a good amount of strap, but don't expect all 12' to go on it. If your strap hits the spool gears, then you didn't pull enough strap through first.
