When I read the description of this product, I expected that the "towels" would be heavier. The description boasted a lint-free cloth side for wet paint and a terry side to clean up spills. I wouldn't describe either side of the cloth as terry, although one side has a visible weave. The cloths are a good size and can clean up a number of spills. Although thinner than I expected, the cloths are absorbent and able to clean spills. I liked that you received 12 cloths in a pack--plenty for a paint job large or small. Anything that makes a paint job easier is a win in my book!

The product descriptor on the Home Depot web site says they are 11" X 17". The bag I received described them as 14" X 17" and I measured them and they are that size. There are 12 in the bag. It says on the bag that they are 90% cotton and 10% polyester. You can tell from the feel and by how much they absorb that they are made of mostly cotton. The towels have a hem around all 4 sides, and are durable enough to be washed and reused many times. One side of the towels is described as a terry cloth finish which I took to mean the side that was a little rougher, more textured. This side would be good for scrubbing surfaces. The other side of the towels is much smoother and would be good for wiping down stain painted surfaces.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MarilynB Great towels for painting, staining, and cleaning
These 2-in-1 paint towels are handy to have and are good for so many uses. They are 90% cotton and 10% polyester and are a good size of 14" x 17". They are made in Pakistan.
I like that one side is a terry cloth for general clean up and the other side is a woven low-lint cloth for painting and staining. The edges are hemmed.
I was surprised to see how well these work for staining smooth wood. Using a cloth while wearing disposable gloves makes the job easy with good coverage and less paint drips. I like that I do not have to clean brushes because these towels are inexpensive and can simply be thrown away when finished painting. They also work well for general cleaning and absorb well even though they are not very thick.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Anthony Good general purpose towels
These towels are nice to have around the house. One side of the towel is pretty smooth while the other side is pretty rough. All four sides are hemmed up nicely. That should keep them in a usable condition for a good amount of time. I have not use them for any painting or staining, but I am willing to bet they are good for cleaning up paint smudges.
These towels are made in Pakistan.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by L111 Interesting towel, puzzling product name
I regularly purchase the HDX cotton terry towels, and have dozens of those towels stashed around my house that I use for cleaning. I also do a fair amount of painting around the house, so I was curious about these "paint towels".
The towel is interesting and definitely unique. One side is similar to (although not quite the same) a terry towel, while the other side is a smoother / flatter knit design. While the towel is definitely different from a typical terry rag, I'm not entirely sure what the "paint towel" product name means and whether it refers to applying paint type products, or cleaning wet paint up.
The plastic package says "For painting and staining jobs", "Terry cloth side for general clean up", and "Low lint cloth side for wet paint". I'm not sure if the intent is that the towel would be used for things like applying wipe on wood stain and wipe on poly, but I think the "low lint" note does seem to imply that, rather than meaning clean up of paint products. I usually use paper towels or cheaper, disposable rags for wiping up spilled paint, so I would be reluctant to use these more valuable towels for paint spill cleanup.
The towels are decent rag-quality and have two hemmed edges. They seem similar in quality to the HDX terry towels, and will be great for house cleaning tasks.
I will have to test one of these with stain or wipe on poly to see if these towels are any better than the t-shirt knit style rags that I would normally use for those wood finishing tasks. But overall they are good shop / cleaning towels that I will certainly be using regularly.
One recommendation: Wash the towels before using. A ton of lint comes off the towels in the dryer, so if you are considering using them for stain or poly application, you will definitely want to wash and dry them to remove lint before use.

An excellent value for a dozen towels, suitable for many purposes. There is a terry cloth side and a low-lint side. Edges are folded and stitched, eliminating any unravelling of the towel. These towels are not dyed, so no worry about colors bleeding. I use these as "sweat rags" when working outdoors on a hot day, and also have a stack of them in the garage and in the workshop.

I am constantly buying packs of small white towels because my husband keeps stealing them from my closet! I use them for cleaning and he thinks they are shop towels and coaching towels. (He likes to carry a small towel with him when he is coaching his team.) I never see them again once he takes them so I can rarely find one when I need it. I split this package with him and hope he stays out of my closet! They are very thin but they are terry on one side and seem to be very absorbent. They also have a hem which will help to keep the shape and prevent unraveling.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by vahandyman low enough cost to throw away & tough enough to wash
Pleasantly surprised they were 14" X 17" VS 11" X 17" with 12 in a bag which is enough for just about any project. 90% cotton and 10% polyester is a good mix and are fairly absorbent since are mostly cotton. Towels are hemmed on all 4 sides and durable enough to be washed and reused again. One side is like terry cloth but not as textured as would like, but still good for scrubbing surfaces. Other side is smoother and good for wiping surfaces, but I'd use lint free clothes for staining VS these, just because I'm like that but i guess would do a fair job staining. I use these for when paper towels aren't tough or absorbent enough and I'm going to throw them away. Also use them for cleaning or wiping stuff off & they can be washed clean.
